I flipped through the channels on TV.

There was nothing to watch besides reality TV shows, black and white silent movies and news stations. And I wasn’t feeling any of them. Was it crap TV day or something?  And it didn’t make it any better that I was completely alone with my dumb cast and a bowl of cold pop corn because Tegan and Hayden had run off to do something together, I don’t know if it was to make out or… things I didn’t necessarily want to think about too much, leaving me all by myself.

I heard the front door open and I leaned back against the sofa, trying to get comfortable without any visible success. My mother came around the corner with her hair rolled into an awkward looking ponytail as she lugged two large canvases behind her.

She groaned and paused for a second to catch her breath, wiping sweat from her forehead. “Where’s your brother?”

I shrugged. “Dunno, somewhere with Tegan?”

She groaned again. “I know it’s great that your brother found his Mate and all, but why isn’t he here when I need him?”

“What’s that for?” I asked her as she began to lug the canvases again.

“Art show.” She shrugged. “In Paris,”

“Good score mom,”

“Thanks.”

When she came back later she sunk into the seat beside me and looked hard at me.

“What?” I asked, scraping at my chin to see if I had any pop corn crumbs on the skin.

“Randel’s birthday is two weeks from now. I spoke to his mother today.”

“Okay, whatever,” I shrugged.

“What are you going to get him? You know you have to give him something of yours for the ceremony.” She goaded.

“Mom,” I snapped. “Can’t we just wait til I sort out my crap to deal with all this Mate and marriage business?”

“Well honey, you’re father and I… we’re getting older now, and soon we won’t be able to run the Pack. We need to sort out all of this business now.”

“Well… I don’t want to sort out all of this business now,” I frowned. “I want to get through my Senior Year, and then deal with it.”

“There won’t be plans then!” my mother objected. “If you miss the chance to be Bound during the Spring, then you miss the chance for an entire year. An entire year is a lot to an Alpha you know darling.”

“Well, I want the plans sorted out after I’m done school. When I know that Randel is the one for me.” I said, staring hard at the TV screen.

“You’re not still doubtful are you?” my mother demanded, looking right at me.

I didn’t answer.

“Misha!” she groaned. “How many times do I have to say, Randel is the one?”

“Everyday!” I snapped. “And I don’t think he’s the one! I think he’s convenient!”

“Of course he’s convenient Misha!” my mother snapped back.

“Only to you!” I yelped. “God, why do you have to be like this!”

“Like what?”

“So… so… pushy!” I yelled, burying my hands in my hair. “When I find my Mate, I’ll tell you, but as of now, I don’t want to hear another word about weddings, being Bound and Mates until I finally freaking understand it all! I hate that you guys are always pushing me. I don’t know if Randel is my Mate. When I know, I’ll get back to you.’
