Unexpected [Steven Universe Reader Insert ]

Chapter 4 - Knowing You Well

     A soft sigh escapes your lips, a smile crossing your features. The weather had went a bit out-of-whack  today, after you had a small discussion about the picnic. The weather had went from being a hot desert, to being a cool summer day. Everyone had enjoyed the sudden change in weather. You look at an empty soda can, which had fallen out of a trash can. As your group walks by, you casually grab it and toss it in the recycling bin. Garnet noticed, of course. But not the others.

   You don't understand why you did that. You'd usually be too lazy, but eh. She chuckles at you. " You do care for your planet, don't you? " Your face flushes in embarrassment(and a little pride). Amethyst turns her head to look at you.

 " So what's up with your life? " She asks, smirking. You shrug in reply, which apparently didn't count as a valid answer to her. " La-a-a-ame! " You chuckle, muttering a 'yep' in reply. She seemed to like your laugh. She steps closer to you, where you could almost practically hold hands. But you didn't notice. You were a bit too distracted by the scenery around you.

     Steven notices Amethyst's sudden attraction toward you, having to stifle a giggle in the exchange. He never knew Amethyst would get a crush on you! He looks to the lowering sun, a thought on his mind. Garnet spoke before he could. " The fireworks will start soon. We should get there early so to get a good area to set up. " They all look to Garnet, various agreements escaping our frames. We start walking  down the path of brightly colored, blue and purple 'Beach City Fireworks Show!' flyers pinned everywhere.

     You had set up the blanket, keeping the food in the basket. You'd eat nearer to the time it was about to begin. You taught Steven a game called 'Concentration' that your friend in high school had taught you. He quickly adapted to the game, having a bound of fun as he played. "Uh... Colors? " You stay, hesitating in your current topic. He bursts out laughing. " You hesitated, [Name]! I won! " You pull away your hands. You both burst into laughing, you sarcastically 'nooooooo'Ing in defeat. You mockingly place a hand on your chest, pretending to dramatically fall to the grass. He laughs even harder.

   " I can't lose! I'm the greatest in the univeeerrrrrsseee! " You jokingly say. Garnet turns to you two. Before Steven can speak, she interrupts. " No you're not. " She places a red hand on his head. " He is. Universe is his last name. " Laughter erupts from all of you, including Garnet. It was a sweet moment, where you got to hear the happiness of your new, odd friends. But before you knew it, a bright light flashed in the sky. You turn your head, your hair whipping around with the movement of your skull. 

     Your eyes sparkle with the bright lights, loud 'boom!'s and 'pow!'s ringing through the area. You watch as a large one explodes in the air, a red heart flashing in the sky. " Ohhhhh... " You place two hands on your cheeks. You had missed this. It reminds you a lot of when you were younger,when you'd watch the New Years or 4th of July fireworks with your family. You smile, tilting your head. You'd often watch a picnic too. You remember one time when you had all stacked juice boxes on your dad/uncle when he was asleep. He was upset when he woke up, but it was still funny.

    A purple flash, with green colors highlighting it.

    Pretty...

    A barrage of white flares, whistling ringing through your ears.

    Wow...

     Three large explosions, in red purple and blue.

      I like that one...

      You continue to internally comment on the pretty lights, unknowing of the eyes on your beatifully mysterious form. You sat unknowingly of this new affection you had gained.
