I sighed and rolled to my knees somehow, to lift my heavy body and round tummy out of the tub. I'd have called for Nikko to help but he hadn't been home the whole night. As a matter of fact, he hadn't even called to check on me. Usually he'd call just to make sure i wasn't up to anything. He hated when I tried to go walking or make runs to the store or take bubble bathes. That's why he'd always pick up stuff for me or pop up on me and put on a movie or something. Now that I think about it, Nikko's been doing a lot for me. It was always weird when he didn't come home but not having heard from him was making me nervous.

Just when I went to pick up the phone the doorbell rung, and I was surprised to say the least. Very few people knew the code to get in the gate and fewer people visited. The only person who I think it could be is... Kinzy? I finished getting dressed and hurried to the door, only to look through the peep hole and see a stranger. I was taken aback by the gorgeous, blonde haired, green eyed, black girl around my age. Then I remembered why this stranger looked familiar. Above Nikko's fire place was a family portrait that was the only clue I had to who his parents were, and next to him in the picture full of model like figures stood his sister.

His sister was at the door! I jumped at the sound of the doorbell ringing again and slowly reached for the knob unsure what to do. She would be welcome here right? I opened the door and examined her even more closely, noticing her red teary eyes and disheveled hair. "Is Nikko ok," I asked opening the door wider in a panic. However, her face went into a huge grimace. "Who are you," she asked, in a confused yet furious tone. Oh yeah, i forgot Nikko's family doesn't know about me. I didn't even know what to say as an explanation. "I'm Ebony," I spoke softly moving to the side as she headed in. But what I said stopped her in her steps as she turned to look at me. Her eyes traveled up and down me and more or less focused on my stomach. Did she know?

If she did, she wouldn't be able to tell because of how flowey and loose this shirt was. It was a dark burgundy, high low blouse that fell all the way to my knees in the back with long sleeves. Under I had on a pair of black maternity tights and unless I turned side ways you really couldn't see a thing, and even then it would be hard to see if you didn't know what a pregnant woman looked like. I was 21 weeks and would be heading into my third trimester soon. It's funny because Kinzy and I may have been in labor at the same time if I delivered early. It just all seemed unrealistic.

"Where is Nikko," she finally spoke ending this awkward silence. I'm just glad she wasn't asking about how we met and how this happened. "I don't know he didn't come home last night," I said, still confused on why she was here. Something must have happened and then she said it. "He must still be at the hospital," she sniffled as she went and sat on the steps. My eyes went wide as I clutched my stomach in fear. Nikko was in the hospital? Oh no, not this again. Why did everyone I love get hurt? God, please! I have to tell him I love him still and that I want us to be a family.

"Is he... Is he ok," I stuttered breathlessly. She looked up meeting my now watery eyes and chuckled a little. "Knowing him, probably not. He's probably out trying to set the city aflame. Poochie was shot yesterday evening. For the polices sake, Nikko is still at the hospital. If not he's out there collecting names and sending more people to the morgue, which right now I'm okay with," she sniffled again, pulling out her cell phone. I hated to sigh in relief as I closed the door but now my child would have a father and I still had my chance. There was so much I had to tell Nikko and that I wanted to know from him. Then again if he went to jail I still wouldn't get the chance.

"Do you think we should go check on him," I asked in worry. His sister shook her head. "No, Jovani was on his way to the hospital. If he doesn't find him there he'll look somewhere else, even though when Nikko's temper gets the best of him there isn't a thing that can calm him down but maybe papi or mami," she spoke more to herself as she sighed and put her phone down. Whoever she called hadn't picked up. "Well you'd better get ready, because I have a feeling i won't be the only family here. By the way my name is Michigan but everyone calls me Mitchy. And you might need more clothes like that, to hide the big secret ya know," she said. Though she seemed nice I could hear the hurt in her voice. I knew she was the girl, Poochie had mentioned that night I robbed him and that the two had to be close. If anything I hoped Poochie didn't die because of Nikko and the young lady in front of me. Wait... Nikko's family?
