Shoko looks down at her belly and breathes deeply.

"More nightmares...I just don't like the ones where I am cutting myself open..." she shakes her head. "Mimiko was too young to deal with all of that..."

"Mimiko is fine. She took it all as a learning experience. She's strong." I pet down bouncy curls. "She has a lot of support. Just like you."

Shoko smiles at me. "That's true."

We talk about happier things and squeal as Zuki pushes over her block tower.

POV Megumi

I can't believe I let him drive AND pick out the music.

My eyes find the waves that lap against the shore as Yuji slowly drives us down the dirt road leading to Dads house. We follow close behind Haibara and Naoya. Ijichi is behind us.

I let myself remember when we used to visit with Dad driving and Geto giving directions while us kids hung out in the back. Nanako would always steal one of my earbuds... and Mimiko was innocent to the world's horrors.

"Hey." Yuji grabs my hand and gently rubs my knuckles. "You alright?"

I nod and keep my eyes on where our hands are connected.

"This stretch is always the hardest. We are almost there." He squeezes and brings my hand to his lips.

I blush like every other time he shows me affection. The small scar across his nose shines when he turns his caramel eyes to me with his stupid grin.

"Stop." I yank my hand away hiding a grin. "Gonna make me throw up."

"Well I'll be there to hold your hair." He laughs. "You think they'll make us sleep in the bunk bed again?"

"It's that or in separate rooms. Pick your poison." I watch Yuji's rough hands turn the truck down the driveway.

"Megs...they know. They have to." Yuji slows the truck to a crawl. "Tell them. Please. I don't like lying..."

"It's not lying! It's...keeping a secret." I lean towards him. "What if I like being secretive?"

Yuji keeps his eyes forward but I notice his chest clench. "What if I don't? What if I would like to hold your hand and not be asked if I have a girlfriend yet."

I rest my chin on his shoulder and let my breath warm his neck. "I'll tell them."

"Really?" Yuji looks down at me.

"Yeah. I guess 2 years is an appropriate length of time to wait." I sigh and sit back in my seat ignoring my stomach flip.

Why haven't I told my DADS that I am dating Yuji...

I don't know. So much changed after what happened with Dad losing his arm, the baby, building the new society, all of us students literally stepping up and learning to be teachers.  Leading kids while we were still kids ourselves... I just didn't want to add more change.

Dumb.
Yuji deserves to be more than a silent love.

"Brake."
