POV Geto

This has been happening every night since we found out about Haibara.

I don't even have to open my eyes or move to know Satoru is not in bed. I grab my phone and squint from the flash of light.

-3a.m.-

I groan and sit up on my elbow. No moonlight seeps into the room because of the drawn curtains. When I can coax Satoru back to bed I do everything I can to let him sleep.

I stand up, slip on lounge pants, and head to where I know he is.

————

I can hear him grunting and the sound of his fist hitting the bag vibrates in my chest. I slide open the door and step inside.

Satoru is punching the big bag and he breathes out quick with each jab. His body glistens with sweat and I can see his legs are shaking slightly.

"You don't have to be up Suguru." Satoru mutters under his breath as he throws a right hook sending the bag almost up to the ceiling.

"I know. You don't either." I walk over and sit cross legged on the mat, leaning back and watching him.

Satoru shakes his head and sends a kick that rattles the bag and echos in the room. He grabs the bag to make it stop and rest his head on the black leather.

I can see his back muscles tense and his lungs collecting much needed air.

"Bad dream?" I let my question float in the air along with Satoru's heavy breaths.

"Yeah." He backs up and takes a couple swings. Each one harder than the last.

"Who about?"

"It was you this time. You and Ijichi." His hit lands soft and I can tell it hurt by the way he shakes out his wrist.

"They are...just nightmares Satoru." I look down at my hands knowing that won't satisfy him.

Satoru pauses and turns to me. I ignore his gaze until I feel him approaching me. I look up as he squats down so we are eye to eye.

"Yeah...nightmares." Satoru hisses between clenched teeth. His eyes are bloodshot from not sleeping and they seer into me.

"Come to bed." I sternly reply keeping my voice strong.

His mouth trembles but he shakes his head and stands back up.

"I haven't been going on hard missions lately. They may be trying to make me soft...trying to make me not be on high alert." Satoru sighs and places his hands on his hips shaking his head.

"You train plenty Love. You are ready for anything. Always have been." I repeat the words I've been saying for a week now.

"I can't let anyone die Suguru. In these...dreams...I always have to make a choice." He runs his bloody wrapped hands through his white hair that slicks back with sweat.

"Dreams are not real Satoru. You are not having premonitions. You are the one planting these obscene scenarios in your head." I sigh and stand up.

He keeps his head down, his white shaggy hair hiding his face.

I place my hands on his hips and try to make him meet my eyes.

"Doing this," I wave my arm around, "will make bad things happen. Make you tired. Exhausted. Weak."

Satoru takes deep breaths.
