When Jess returns downstairs the others have arrived and talk with amusement and excitement. When she enters the drawing room she spots them; East, Amelia, Lizzy, and Andrews. Even though Heartwright was wearing a bonnet, her hair is wet and half pulled from her up-do. Miss Charming looks like a mess too. But she looks more self-conscious about it than Amelia does, which surprises Jess.
Captain East and Colonel Andrews talk with smiles and wet shoulders.
But where are Ella and Bradford?
Jess greets everyone then asks, "Do any of you know where Miss. Civil and Mr. Bradford gave gotten off to?"
"I think they are still at the stables," Amelia says.
"Indeed they were at the butt of our group the whole time," Andrews states.
Jess spots Mr. Nobley standing at the window with smirk as he looks out of it. He looks clean faced and has on fresh clothes. He looks over his shoulder at her in a way that says, 'come see.'
She walks over to stand beside him, curious what it is that could get him to smile like that.
When she looks where he is she spots Ella and Bradford. Over by the stables they make their way to the house in the rain, not caring at all to be wet. In fact Ella looks glad of it as she twirls around and Mr. Bradford laughs hardest he ever has, the two of them looking more joyous than ever they have been before. He even takes her hand and spins her in the rain as the two of them giggle with happiness.
A huge smile appears on Jess' face and in her excitement grabs Henry's arm. It's all she can do not to jump up and down squealing.
