Y/N's POV
After work, I practically sprinted to my quarters in order to get ready for the party. Although Piett had told me not to worry about dressing up, I was tired of wearing the uniform, so I decided to put on one of my better outfits.
I had a refreshing shower, making sure to wear my hair down instead of in an updo. Then, I pulled on one of my nicer dresses, it being more of a sundress rather than a full blown gown.
The dress was made of a sheer material, the dark blue color of it elegantly contrasting my skin tone. I put on some lotion and perfume, along with some boots.
As I examined myself within the mirror, I couldn't help but smile. It had been too long since I had seen myself in something other than a boring uniform. I had even put on a bit of makeup, not anything crazy though, just some mascara and lip gloss.
Once I was all set, I walked by my dresser, stopping at the sight of the jewelry box. It was my mother's, it held all of her prized jewelry. My focus was entirely on the jewelry box now, my fingers carefully opening it to take a look at the familiar pieces.
My mother owned only a few pieces of jewelry, but they were all priceless to her. She had been a woman that adored silver jewels, and that's what filled the velvet box. Two silver necklaces, some earrings, a couple of bracelets, and one ring. The ring.
This ring, her wedding ring. She had never taken it off, not once. Even after my father had passed away years ago, she wore the ring as a badge. As if taking it off would mean the end of the entire galaxy. My mother was so devoted to my father, even in death.
Carefully, I grabbed one of the necklaces. This one in particular was silver with a small heart pendant on the end of it. I took the necklace and put it on, making sure to handle the jewelry with care.
She'd want me to wear it, but she'd also have my head if anything were to happen to it.
I went to open my door, ready to leave now. As soon as it slid open, there stood Piett, hand raised as if he was about to knock. I raised my brows, his face turning a bright red when he saw me.
"Oh! Y/n! I didn't- sorry.." He mumbled sheepishly, looking me over. The red on his cheeks spread to his ears, one of his hands going to rub the back of his neck. He cleared his throat, forcing a soft smile on his face.
"You clean up.. good," he starts, turning to lead me away. I step out, letting the door slide shut behind me.
"Thanks!" I muse, the smile on my face reaching my ears. Piett just chuckled at my happy behavior, shaking his head as we headed down to one of the hangars. This hangar in particular had been shut down due to an influx of electrical problems.
It was one of the first hangars built within the Death Star, but it had many problems with it. So, they closed it shut permanently. Now, people would come here when they just wanted to take a break or in our case, to party.
Piett had explained the backstory behind the hangar as we walked to it together. His eyes hadn't left me almost the entire walk, a smile glued onto his face the whole time. He was like a child on their birthday, receiving gifts and a cake.
The feeling of talking to him felt like the warmth of sunshine on your skin after being in the cold for so long. He was so bright and cheery, it was such a contrast to the dreary place we were in.
Finally, we arrived to the hangar. People were already inside, the sound of soft music and chatter filling up the large space. There weren't too many people inside, maybe around two dozen. But most of them were imps, alongside a few troopers and some doctors I recognized in passing from the medbay.
