Chapter 59: So...Begin

Start from the beginning

Everyone stands and heads to their individual chambers. I get my shaky fingers on the handle , open it, and shut it gently as I separate myself from danger by a clumsy wooden door.

I rest my head on the cool oak and take deep breaths. I can feel my body relax knowing I won't have to...

"Yu Haibara?"

My heart lurches in my chest.

Stay calm.

I straighten up and turn to find a white haired woman with pastel purple eyes.

"My apologies Mrs. Gojo. I was not expecting company." I give her a soft smile. One that I have perfected to the point I can give it probably at deaths door.

"It's alright. Leader Zenin told me to wait for him here." Her voice though light shoves knives in my gut.

"It is one of the more...comfortable rooms. I'll leave you be." I bow and walk towards the door as the handle moves.

It swings open to my horror. My face remains calm. Plastered with a smile and a polite bow as leader Zenin enters with Naoya at his heel.

"Yu. I am so glad we caught you before you left." His green eyes run up my body before landing on Naya.

"Mrs.Gojo, so sorry about the wait." Zenin speaks to her softly.

I glance over at Naoya as the other two speak. He is in a kimono that matches his father down to the very belt. His eyes are glossy and they stare into mine. I could have imagined it but I swear he shakes his head slightly at me.

My heart starts to pound without a definite cause as to why.

"Yu?"

I turn poised to the leader who is holding hands with Naya.

"I have spoken to Mrs.Gojo about how great of a young man you are. A great addition to our ranks. Someone I can see holding an even higher power in the future." The leader's eyes take root in mine. His shimmer with something that makes my legs buckle and my lungs clench.

"I greatly appreciate the gesture. I look forward to all I can do for the higher-up's." I nod at the leader with happy eyes and a gracious smile.

My insides clench and my brain is trying to shake the horrible thoughts on what could come out of this situation. Bile makes it way up my throat.

"Yu is always eager to please. His youthfulness keeps things balanced among a group of old men like myself. Naoya also has amazing insight and does as he is told." The leader walks over to his son and grips his shoulder.

Naoya flinches under his father's hand and keeps his eyes on the wooden floor.

"Thank you Zenin." Naya nods at him a devilish grin spreading across her lips.

I stand awkwardly between everyone and look at the door. I could just leave...right?

My foot moves to the exit, Zenin's hand grips my forearm.

"Where are you going Yu?" His voice is tense and his hand hardens on my skin.

"Home. My WIFE is expecting me back quickly." I pull slightly on my arm but not enough to make a scene.

"Well duty comes first. Right?" Zenin pulls me towards him as I feel a shift in the air.

He has a couple inches on me and his build is stronger even at an older age. I can't fight him. I lose the will to leave and stand face to face with him. My heart screams for me to run. My brain tells me to relax.

"I'll leave you all be." Zenin straightens my kimono, runs his fingers along my jaw, and leaves. The door clicks shut leaving an echo in the room and in my soul.
