Tears well in my eyes as I laugh softly into his neck. My hands hold him against me so I can hear his heart beat true and strong.
POV Nanami
-9a.m-
"I expect this not to take long. Yuta, you will be the leader but I want them to do most of the work. Step in if necessary."
Yuta nods acknowledging my words.
"What if...we need help...from you?" Nanako ties her hair up into a bun.
"I'll know if you do." I pat her back and shove her towards to the building. "Now go."
I watch as Maki, Nanako, Inumaki, and Yuta enter an old hospital. It was a good two hour drive but there are two grade 2's that the group should be able to handle effectively.
I am hoping they will sense that the curses are on different floors. I want to see if they'll all stick together or split up. What kind of groups they'll have.
I sit on a bench near the Jeep and pull out my phone.
— mission in progress
I wait for a reply as I close my eyes and lay my head back. There's a nice breeze today. My face warms up in the sunlight...then I feel him.
"That didn't mean you had to come bother me." I groan not opening my eyes.
"Sounded like an invite." Gojo says while plopping down next to me on the bench.
"How did Geto do?"
"He did great. That...was hard for him. No side effects but he'll probably be sick later. We were like 20 minutes from home when you texted." Gojo sighs loudly and I can feel him stretching.
For once he lets the wind and the sound of birds fill in the gap of conversation.
"They separated." Gojo hums in thought.
"Interesting. Someone must want to get home. Moneys on Maki. Can you tell groups?" I ask while lifting my head back up and looking at Gojo.
"Yuta with Inumaki. Nanako and Maki. Good choice." Gojo sits forward his chin resting in his hands.
*beep
Gojo keeps his blindfolded eyes on the building as he pulls out his phone. He tenses as he uses his thumb to swipe the screen.
"Haibara?" I scoot closer to him.
He nods his head. "No new information. No sightings of us. Still searching for two men they sent to Okinawa but they think they abandoned the mission."
"So we are still in the clear." I pat his back but he doesn't seem to be excited about the news.
"I didn't get to see Sera this morning before leaving. How is she?" Gojo turns to me while pulling down his blindfold.
"She ate a good breakfast like always. Just normal happy Sera." I can feel me heart jump knowing the conversation I have dreaded is on his lips.
"Good. Thanks for taking care of her. I really appreciate it." He smiles and looks back at the building.
We can hear light thudding on the second floor of the building but it doesn't compare to the blood rushing in my ears.
"Gojo..." I wait for him to look at me. "I...I like her. A lot."
His face remains expressionless which makes my chest heat up in embarrassment. Way to go Kento. Falling for your best friend's surrogate was not on my list of things to do but...here we are.
"I thought so." Gojo says while standing with a groan, his tall frame casting shade on me. "Let's go check on them. The curse with Maki and Nanako has a higher endurance than I like."
