KA-BOOM!

I fell...I barely had any time to process what had happened before I hit the rock hard ground two stories below. I took a gasping breath as my eyes flew open, the impact instantly knocking the air out of my lungs, pain rocketing through my chest and my back. I didn't know what was happening. I couldn't move and inhaled nothing but dust as large pieces of support beam and roof tumbled down from above. I tried to move out of the way, crying out in panic as flaming debris fell almost right on top of me. The base up-roared once again as gunshots pierced the air. Smoke started to fill the air around me as I coughed, rolling myself to my stomach and crawling out. I couldn't see anything. Everything was just a haze of smoke and dust. Shock was shooting through my entire body as I started to stiffen, my thoughts racing.

"Oi!" I heard a familiar voice shout. "That was Scout's room! Find 'er! Quickly!" I slowly recognized the voice as Sniper's as I attempted to crawl back inside the base.

"Incoming!"

Another explosion hit, throwing me yards away from where I was. As I tumbled to a stop I gasped and struggled to breathe as I writhed on the ground, a new pain unlike any other searing across my chest, a warm liquid soaking into my shirt. I struggled to stand up, trying to figure out where I was when my world spun, making me stumble and hit a wall. I cried out in pain as I slid down the wall back to the ground again, my chest feeling like a knife was jutting out of it. I clutched at my chest with both arms as blood started to ooze down my chin. In that moment of whirling confusion, was when it all started... I mustered up all of my strength and yelled at the top of my lungs.

"Medic!!" I was immediately greeted with a roaring pain rupturing in my lungs, making me inhale so hard that I choked, coughing up splotches of blood onto the floor. My vision started to fade as the smoke stung my throat. I closed my eyes as I finally slumped over where I was sitting, losing all the strength I'd had before.

"Guys! I found her!"

"Scout is here!"

"She's hurt! Get the Medic, now! She'll be bleedin' out!"

"Medic!"

The gentle sound of a heart monitor was the only thing my mind could focus on.

I felt no more pain...and...I could breathe...

My mind swam, not really needing to ask myself where I was. I took a slow and relaxed breath as I quietly opened my eyes, giving myself a moment for my eyes to adjust. The first thing I saw was the Medi gun in front of me, gently humming as it did its work. I didn't want to see what I'd managed to do to myself, and I tried hard not to think about earlier. I didn't want to know what happened, but I did know that someone was going to tell me one way or another. There was an IV pumping blood into the back of my hand and patches on my chest to watch my breathing and heart beat. Everything seemed alright. It was quiet...very quiet... Judging by where I was, I realized quietly that Scout must've been out earlier that day and I'd never noticed, for he was nowhere to be seen.

I closed my eyes again, relaxing. Every sound in the room making me instantly calm. I didn't know about anyone else...but I liked it here.

The sound of doors swishing shut made me open my eyes again. I looked over, and without a doubt, Medic was walking to my bed side, looking down at me. Even though I was calm, the same couldn't be said for him at all, yet I don't think I'd ever seen a day where Medic was not looking like he'd just run a few miles. He looked over at the monitor, giving a slight nod as he mumbled something quietly to himself. He started walking away from my bed, talking to himself as he reached a desk and wrote something down.

Wondering why he wasn't trying to talk to me, I opened my mouth to speak, but nothing came out. I frowned, trying once again to say something, but nothing but air escaped my mouth, sounding like I'd just wheezed. I quietly rubbed my throat, confused.

"I vouldn't try zhat..." he said, looking up at me. "You might hurt your throat even more..."

I couldn't ask him why, and he knew this, so finishing whatever he was writing he came to me and sat on the bed, looking at me.

"Zhe air you inhaled...took a huge toll on you throat....it vasn't just smoke...it vas multiple chemicals....and zhey attacked your voice harshly...so...rest it for a vhile" He paused, and I knew what was coming. "Zhe BLU team...vhile we vere sleeping...zhey sent a missile and it hit your room directly...I'm afraid to say zhat...all of your room is gone...it collapsed vith you in it...Vhen we found you, you had shattered ribs, some of vhich penetrating your lungs...nozhing I couldn't fix..." This time he took a slightly proud tone, which made me smile a bit. He detached me from the monitors and IVs, making then beep for a second before switching them off. When he started talking again, I perked up a little.

Unlike any other time, I was especially listening to what he was saying...something about that accent...

He patted my shoulder lightly, giving me a light and comforting smile.

"You'll be fine...you'll just have to stay vith me in my room for a vhile...I volunteered to share.."

I nodded, hardly having a problem with it at all.
