Thank you. For today. For the song. For being there when you didn't have to be, when it couldn't have been easy for you. I saw you, even when I couldn't look too long. I felt it. All of it.
You've been in my life longer than almost anyone. Through every version of me, through every change, every mess. You've been constant. You've been the person I called when I didn't know who else to turn to. You've been... home. Even when I didn't deserve it.
I don't know what the future looks like. I don't know how things will shift now. But I need you to know that no matter how things change, I want you in my life. I hope you'll still be around. I hope we can still be us, somehow.

His chest felt tight, like her words had reached straight into him.
He didn't reply. Not yet.
Just sat there, phone in hand, letting it sink in.
After a moment, he locked the screen and tossed it onto the couch.
Leaning back, he closed his eyes.
Somewhere between the ache and the relief, one thought kept playing in his head.
