Tizzy said that my first few days would likely pass without any action. I was given this time to gather my bearings and just figure out my place in the medbay. I was allowed to explore the floor, with Tizzy leaving me all by myself.
She said she wanted me to be "a brave, little adventurer," and learn things on my own. She trusted me, yet she barely knew me. Although she was right, I wasn't going to do much. So, I followed her instructions and got to wandering.
I made sure to stay out of the way of other doctors, just walking around the halls of the floor. I found out where the supply room, the large room stacked to the ceiling with any supplies I might need. Bacta, bandages, rubbing alcohol, etc.
After that, I sat at my desk, looking through the data pad and learning how to navigate the apps a bit more thoroughly. I looked at a few of the patient information files, not finding much. It seemed I would just be treating stormtroopers, as most of the patients in the database were that: troopers.
Soon, it was time for lunch. I grabbed my card, clocking out for my break and heading towards the exit. As soon as I turned the corner, I ran right into someone, my face slamming into a broad chest. I stumbled back slightly, but managed to recover myself before I fell over. A large hand made contact with my wrist, keeping me upright.
"I'm sorry! I didn't see you!" Piett's voice murmured sheepishly, letting go of my wrist once he assured I was balanced enough.
Just the man I wanted to see, the man that kept me from my dinner and got me into trouble with that mysterious man last night.
I looked up at Piett, only to notice some deep red bruises on his neck. He rubbed the back of it gingerly, avoiding the marks as he looked at me. "I was looking for you, actually." He mumbles. He looked nervous, in a way. He looked around nervously, before his gaze returned to me.
I furrowed my brows, he was looking for me?
"Oh, um, did you need help with something?" I asked, gesturing around to the medbay. Piett shook his head, a slight flush making an appearance on his cheeks. "No, I actually.." Piett trailed off, hesitating.
He looked around again, before sighing. "I came to apologize. I shouldn't have denied you dinner last night, especially when it was your first day. I'm sorry." He relents, his voice a soft mutter. He seemed embarrassed to be apologizing to me, but something was keeping him from fully relaxing.
I could see the tenseness in his movements and his posture. Yesterday, he was much more slouched and casual about everything. Now, he was standing straight up, his movements stiff and calculated.
I shook my head, my gaze stuck on the marks on his neck. "It's okay, you were just doing your job." I replied. I felt kind of bad about it now, being mad at him and all. Here he was, apologizing to me.
Piett sighed, nodding in relief as I accepted his apology, albeit without much hesitation. He looked around once more, before looking at me. He paused, before allowing himself to relax just slightly.
"It's about your lunch time, right?"
I nodded, glancing towards the clock. "Yeah? I'm headed to the dining hall now."
Piett nodded, trying and failing to appear nonchalant as he leaned back against a wall. "Right, well, y'know, it's also my lunch time. We could go together, if you'd like." He suggests calmly.
Now he was asking me to lunch? This was turning it to be much more of a weird first day. I hesitated for a moment, before nodding. What did I have to lose? I only had one friend, Tizzy, and she was hardly my friend. She was just the kind doctor helping me out for my first day.
