I meet her exactly like how I left her arms folded, gazing at the blue skies in front of us. The navy blue contrast of the ocean sea against the pale blue hues of the dimming sunset is a site to see and I did not blame her for peeking at it for quite some time. I handed her the glass and she pulled away before realising the substance in front of her. Taking it for me, she downs it in one go my eyes wide in amusement and shock.
She looks at my glass before looking up at me with those dow eyes and when her hand meets mine, I find the grip I had on the rim of my class soften and before I know it, both glasses were empty. A small chuckle evinces from my lips.
" What ? " she says innocently.
" You don't even drink wine"
Her statement made me pause and recollect. She's right there are no wine bottles in the house to be seen. Only scotch and whiskey hold my liquor cabinets.
" You're correct Mo Grádh, I just find you rather amusing, " I say taking the two empty glasses away from her.
I tell her to follow me to the dining table where the meal is ready for us.
She doesn't fight me on this either, typically she's either never hungry or too full now I'd have to tell her that it's on my terms whether or not she is or she isn't. I place the two wine glasses down and she stands behind me awaiting my gesture she knows not to pull out her chair when I'm near. She knows not to do anything that involves heavy lifting if I'm in the presence of her she's learnt that the hard way but I'm glad she's come to her senses. I gently tuck her in before making my way to mine. In rapid format, she reaches for another glass of Rose D'amelie and the fills are almost off the rim. I go to say something when she cocks her head to the left noticing a bottle of Glenfiddich Gran Scotch Whisky resting on the kitchen island and she shifts to her feet without a thought in the direction of the bottle.
My words halted at the tip of my mouth like a car at a stop light. That warm sensation filters through my body again.
" Isn't this the brand you like the most? " she says, moving to my seat and handing me the bottle before pulling it away and pouring it into the small cylinder glass next to us which was meant for water. It's not your ideal whiskey glass but nonetheless don't say a word as she pours it into the cup.
I'm still trying to wrap my head around her inquiry. Did she make the assumption based on it being the only whiskey bottle here or the mere fact that it is indeed my favourite brand of whiskey? Has she been as observant of me as I have of her but with no underlying purpose? I know she watches me and takes into account the things I do but I always assume it's out of survival and learning my actions and not pure self-indulgence of my interests. She walks over back to her seat and again I try to not let the fact I had no authority in pulling out her chair for the second time get to me. She starts sipping on her wine as if nothing happened, as if she didn't open my eyes to a different perspective. It may not be wide open but it's enough to let the light through.
She stares at the spread in front of us, which caters to a range of cheese, crackers and fruits as well as the main cuisine which is a silicone steak, not our usual meal range. She downs her third glass of wine, and I give her a deep glare before saying.
" Slow down, Mo grádh "
She doesn't reach the last remnants of the bottle but instead goes for some water. Her compliance again, is something I find hard to grasp.
" What's the deal with your brothers? Are they the only social life you have " she asks.
She's a lot chattier today, I presume it's the alcohol.
I let out a deep laugh as I took a bite of my cut steak. She has her moments of wisteria.
" I chose to not have a prominent social life Evelina, so they're the only things left after you "
