Fine. If she wanted to play, I'd make sure she realized just who she was up against.
I closed her file with a soft thud and met her gaze with a cold stare. "Last question."
Mikha raised a brow, waiting.
I folded my hands on the desk. "What would you do if your past came back to haunt you?"
She didn't even blink. Instead, she smiled. A slow, knowing, fucking smug smile.
"Simple," she said, her voice smooth like silk. "I'd face it head-on."
Silence stretched between us, thick and suffocating. Neither of us looked away.
Finally, I exhaled and stood up. "We'll be in touch."
Mikha stood as well, adjusting her blazer. "Looking forward to it."
She turned to leave, but not before pausing at the door. She glanced over her shoulder, amusement flickering in her eyes.
"Oh, and Aiah?" Her voice was almost teasing.
I didn't respond.
She smirked. "You still look good when you're trying not to be affected by me."
Then, with that, she walked out, leaving me gripping the edge of my desk-furious.
And maybe, just maybe, a little breathless.
I was still gripping the edge of my desk, my jaw clenched so tightly it hurt. My mind was a mess-racing between anger and something else I refused to name.
Then, just as I was about to take a deep breath to compose myself, the door burst open without a knock.
"AIAHHH!"
I flinched. "Sheena, what the-"
She marched in like she owned the place, eyes wide with curiosity. "Oh my God, tell me it's true!"
I pinched the bridge of my nose. "Sheena, ano na naman?"
She plopped onto the chair across from me, her elbows on my desk as she leaned forward, eyes gleaming. "Mikha was here?"
I sighed. "She just left."
"HOLY SHIT!" Sheena clutched her chest dramatically. "Bestie, are you okay? Do you need water? A hug? A therapist?"
"I need peace," I muttered, rubbing my temples.
Sheena grinned. "You need peace, but she needs you."
I shot her a look. "Don't start."
"But I will start." She scooted even closer. "Ano nangyari? Kamusta siya? What did she say? Did she beg for you back? Should I start preparing a who's laughing now banner?"
I exhaled sharply. "She applied for the secretary position."
Sheena's jaw dropped. "Secretary?! HAHAHAHA, wait-Mikha? Applying to work under you? Oh my God, this is the best thing ever!"
I crossed my arms. "It's not funny."
"Oh, it's hilarious." She wiped fake tears from her eyes. "Imagine your ex taking orders from you. Karma is a gorgeous woman!"
"Sheena," I warned.
She held up her hands. "Fine, fine! Serious mode." Then, after two seconds: "Pero, bes... you know this is fate, right?"
