By early morning, the living room looked like a makeshift sick ward—pillows, blankets, tissues, and medicine scattered around. Katie sat in an armchair, half-dozing, while Tyler sat on the couch with Rachel nestled against him.

"You're a trooper, Rach," Tyler said, his voice soft. "You're going to feel better soon. Promise."

Rachel sniffled but managed a tiny smile. "Thank you, Daddy."

Katie smiled sleepily at the sight, her heart full despite the rough night. "We've got you, baby girl," she said, joining them on the couch.

Though they were all tired, the love and care they gave Rachel made her feel safe and cherished, even through her sniffles and coughs. The family's bond grew stronger in those quiet, shared moments of comfort and tenderness.

Flu season always hit the family hard, and tonight seemed to mark its unwelcome arrival. As Katie sat with Rachel on the couch, she heard the soft creak of the upstairs bathroom door and turned her head. Summer emerged, her blanket wrapped tightly around her shoulders, her steps slow and shuffling.

Katie sighed and muttered under her breath, "Cold season has officially activated."

Summer sniffled as she reached the bottom of the stairs, her eyes glassy. "Mom, I don't feel good," she mumbled, her voice barely above a whisper.

Katie gave Tyler a knowing look before patting the spot next to her. "Come here, sweetheart. Let me check on you."

Summer trudged over and collapsed into her mom's lap, her blanket still wrapped like a cocoon. Katie placed a gentle hand on her forehead and frowned. "You're warm too. Looks like you and Rachel are taking turns."

Tyler chuckled softly, though his face betrayed his concern. "And here I was thinking we might actually avoid it this year."

Katie shook her head with a tired laugh. "Nope. Cold season never skips us."

Rachel stirred, coughing lightly as she cuddled closer to Tyler. "Summer, you sick too?"

Summer nodded, her face half-buried in her blanket. "Yeah."

Katie sighed again, mentally preparing herself for the days ahead. "Alright, let's get through this together. Tyler, can you grab the extra pillows and another blanket from upstairs? Looks like we're making this a full-on sick night."

Tyler nodded, heading up the stairs as Katie comforted both girls, rubbing Summer's back while holding Rachel's hand.

"You two are troopers," Katie said softly. "We'll get you feeling better in no time."

Rachel gave a tiny smile while Summer just sniffled, leaning against her mom's shoulder. It was going to be a long flu season, but Katie and Tyler knew they'd handle it together—one tissue and one snuggle at a time.

Next morning...

By morning, it was clear the cold had made its rounds. Katie was in the kitchen preparing toast and tea when she heard a chorus of coughs coming from the living room. She sighed, setting the plate down and grabbing a tissue box.

Autumn, Joseph, and Daniel were sprawled out on the couch, all looking equally miserable. Autumn clutched her stuffed bunny, her cheeks flushed. Joseph sat up slightly, his blanket draped over his head like a hood, while Daniel leaned against the armrest, sniffling every few seconds.

Katie shook her head, walking into the living room. "Well, looks like flu season's officially taken over the house."

Tyler followed behind her, holding a tray with juice and medicine. "It's like a domino effect," he said, placing the tray on the coffee table. "Who's next? Us?"
