While it only was the first day, I was still a little upset about everything. I finished my shower, throwing on some pajamas and brushing my hair back. I washed my face and brushed my teeth, getting ready for bed.
During my day spent well with Piett, he had explained some of the rules that the crew had to abide by during their employment here. One of the important rules that I had gathered was that there was a curfew for all members of the ship.
Curfew started at ten pm, and there would be hallway sweeps every day to ensure that everyone was in their quarters before the curfew was up. I knew that this was important, considering how serious Piett had made it seem.
"And no matter what you want to do, or need to do, don't leave your room past ten pm. It's the curfew everyone has to follow. And the consequences aren't exactly pleasurable." Piett explained, gesturing as we walked past the entrance to the bridge.
"Why? Is there like a scary monster that wanders the halls?" I asked sarcastically, smiling. Piett just scoffed, but it sounded slightly like a chuckle. "Sort of," he replied, shrugging.
"It's more just.. a precaution, I suppose. Just listen to the rules and you'll be just fine." Piett says, leading me forward. We continued on like that, with Piett explaining things, but not fully revealing the necessity of following these rules.
I could understand the need for a curfew, with so many people on a ship at a single time, it would be hard to keep track of everyone and ensure they are staying out of trouble. But ten seemed so early and to not have a full reason for it left me feeling a little weary.
I sat on the edge of the bed, pulling on some slippers and pulling my hair back into a low bun. It was a bit past ten, but only by a few minutes. If I could just be very sneaky, I should be able to make it to the dining hall and grab something small to snack on before capturing anyone's notice.
I couldn't take the hunger any longer than I already had. It was my first day, and here I was, already breaking the rules. I grabbed a robe and pulled it on, letting the hood slightly cover my face. With that, I was ready to venture out of my quarters and towards the dining hall.
The halls were slightly frightening, being alone in the vastness of it all. When I was with Piett, there were troopers marching in formation down the halls. There were also admirals and other people of importance walking past us, filling the halls with noise and chatter.
But now, it was just I, alone in the boring halls. I walked quietly, my hand skimming against the wall as I tried to remember my way towards the dining hall. It was hard to remember my way, with everything looking the exact same.
I turned right, continuing my way on. Nothing happened, and it was completely silent. Until, I couldn't move anymore. I let out a soft gasp, my body stuck in place. It was as if I was paralyzed, my body no longer under my control.
"Where are you going?!" A loud, deep voice asked from behind me. Slowly, my body turns without my doing, and I was facing the figure.
Someone in a black, long cloak looked at me. They were tall, and their face was concealed by the hood of the cloak. They held their hand out, the hand being one of metal, something I had only seen a few times. It was typically a feature of someone that had gotten their limb amputated.
"I asked you a question, now answer it!" The figure demanded, his voice roaring in the hall. I would've cowered if I could've, but I was still stuck, frozen in time. I opened my mouth to speak, my voice coming out in a quiet whisper.
"T-to the dining hall.."
The man continued to face me. I couldn't see any of his features, all of them hidden by the dark cloth of the cloak. "It's past curfew. No one should be out of their rooms right now, including you." He replies coldly. His hand flicks up a little and my hood falls, revealing my face.
