Y/n's POV

I grunt, panting heavily at the pain which seeped through my body. I ached, my body glistening in a fine layer of sweat as my head flung back.

Falling to the ground, the wind was knocked out of my lungs, groaning at the pain that hit my back.

'Damn' I think to myself while I lay on the ground looking up at the sky.

"I win, again." Finan chuckle sword pointed at my chest.

"Yay." I huff sarcastically, pushing the blade away. Chuckles echo from the camp near us and I turn to glare at the laughing men and women.

"You're not distributing your weight properly." Bride critiques.

"And you swing with no strategy." Ragnar commented, making me throw back my head with a groan.

"Still there's strength behind those swings of hers." Finan says sheathing his sword and offering me a hand up which I accept.

"She has time to improve." Uhtred says as we walk over and I now sheath the sword Uhtred had gifted me.

I was surprised when he handed me the sword, the blade glistened in the sunlight, the weight heavy but not too much that I could not handle it. The hilt adorned a nice dark purple leather.

"Thank you for the criticism. But I am a lost cause, I don't know what I was thinking." I huff sitting down and accepting a cup of ale.

"Don't lose faith, you will improve and you will be by our side when we invade Dunholm." Uhtred pats my shoulder trying to give me hope.

I weakly smile in return, picking once more at the food offered to me.

"You may find your strength improves if you eat properly." Brida comments, unwanted of course but she speaks as I would, freely.

I let out a breathing laugh at her comment, shaking my head. I probably shouldn't had as I found a new coat of sweat coating my forehead at the familiar feeling creeping up my throat.

Putting my plate down I stand without a word and walk off. I felt the eyes of the others on me as I abruptly stood and marched off with haste. No doubt a misunderstanding would form for I had not responded to Brida.

Once I am away from the camp, I chuck up the contents of my stomach spitting and groaning afterwards.

"Damn it." I say to myself as I lean against the tree I used to support myself while I threw up. I felt tears threatening to fall. What's more a cramp unlike any cramps I'd felt before made me hiss as I fell down the tree to the floor.

I had started my period earlier that day and unfamiliar with the way they were handled I had to consult with Hild on how to go about my business.

It was quite embarrassing for some reason I could not place. In my time I had openly talked about my monthly friend but everyone seemed so reserved by the idea in this time line. Some even frowned upon it according to Hild.

What's more this was the first time I had bled since my first month on the ship. That was a bad enough experience as I remember crying later that night into Uhtred's shoulder.

"Perhaps soup would be better." Brida says from behind me, making me spin around.

"Brida?" I say startled.

"Look what I said..." She starts.

"You don't need to apologise. You are right, if I ate properly maybe then my strength would improve. Yet as you can see I can barely keep the food I eat down." I cut her off with a wave of my hand.
