Caught in Each Other's Games
Beomgyu had been causing too much trouble at his old school lately. One day, he got a text from his dad asking him to come downstairs for a talk. When he did, his parents dropped a bombshell, they wanted him to transfer...
Yeonjun sat at his usual spot in the cafeteria, the chatter of his friends around him fading as he absentmindedly picked at his food. His mind kept drifting back to Beomgyu. The new guy. The one who had turned his world upside down the moment he walked into this school. He couldn't stop thinking about him, even though he tried to. It wasn't just the usual intrigue he felt when meeting someone new—it was something else. Something more intense, something he wasn't quite ready to acknowledge.
It had started small. A look here, a comment there. But the more he interacted with Beomgyu, the more he realized that there was something magnetic about him. Beomgyu was... captivating. His charm was undeniable, and his confidence was something Yeonjun admired, even if he didn't admit it to anyone. And there was that smirk. The way Beomgyu's lips curled when he made a playful comment or teased him. It was like a challenge, an invitation to a game Yeonjun didn't know he was playing.
Yeonjun had never really been one to get attached easily. He was used to being the one others sought after. The popular, untouchable guy who could have anyone he wanted. But with Beomgyu, it was different. He didn't fall for people easily, but Beomgyu made him want to try. There was something about how effortlessly Beomgyu made people gravitate toward him. Yeonjun could see it in the way people watched him, the way they responded to his every word. But what intrigued Yeonjun the most was how Beomgyu seemed to always have the upper hand. He was never intimidated, never unsure.
The first time they spoke was unexpected, and Yeonjun was caught off guard by Beomgyu's confidence. The way Beomgyu responded with that cocky grin, challenging him without even realizing it. Yeonjun couldn't help but feel a little... impressed. And it wasn't just the teasing that caught his attention. It was the way Beomgyu made everything seem effortless, the way he could throw out a line that made Yeonjun feel like he was the one who needed to keep up.
And yet, despite the playful back-and-forth, there was something in Beomgyu's eyes that Yeonjun couldn't quite place. Something deeper, something darker. It made him want to learn more about the guy, to dig beneath that carefree exterior and figure out what made him tick.
It was during the week that followed their first conversation that Yeonjun started to notice it more. The little things. The way Beomgyu would lean in just a little closer when they spoke, as if daring him to make the first move. The way his gaze would linger a fraction of a second too long before he pulled away, leaving Yeonjun wondering if it was all just a game or if there was something more behind it. Yeonjun found himself thinking about Beomgyu more than he cared to admit.
At first, it was harmless. They were just two guys, one cocky and confident, the other cool and collected. But then something shifted. Yeonjun couldn't deny the growing pull he felt toward Beomgyu. He started looking for excuses to spend time with him, to talk to him more. Even though it irritated him, Yeonjun couldn't help but enjoy the playful tension between them. The way they would challenge each other, each trying to get the upper hand.
But it was the moment that Beomgyu made that comment, that daring look, that sent a thrill through Yeonjun's chest. "Breaking hearts is kinda my thing. Think you can keep up?"
Yeonjun had never been one to back down from a challenge. And yet, something about Beomgyu's words made his heart race in a way he couldn't explain. It wasn't just a challenge, it was an invitation. One that Yeonjun wasn't sure he was ready for, but something about the way Beomgyu looked at him made it hard to resist.
Later that day, after school, Yeonjun found himself wandering the hallways, trying to shake off the feeling that had settled in his chest. He'd never liked feeling this way, like he was unsure of himself. But Beomgyu had a way of throwing him off balance, and Yeonjun wasn't used to that.
When he saw Beomgyu again, leaning against a locker with that familiar smirk, he felt a flicker of something he hadn't anticipated: jealousy. It wasn't a typical feeling for him, but there it was. He watched as Beomgyu laughed and joked with a group of students, his eyes dancing with mischief. Yeonjun couldn't help but feel irritated. Why did it bother him so much? Why did the thought of Beomgyu getting too close to anyone else make him feel this way?
He turned to walk away, but before he could, he saw Beomgyu talking to someone. Joon, was it? He wasn't sure, but it didn't matter. What mattered was the way Beomgyu's hand rested on Joon's shoulder, the way they shared that quiet, intimate moment that made Yeonjun's stomach twist. And then, before he could stop himself, he watched as Beomgyu leaned in and kissed Joon. The kiss was slow, deliberate. Full of everything Yeonjun wasn't ready for.
That was it. Something inside Yeonjun snapped. The jealousy, the frustration, the emotions he had been trying to bury all week—they all came rushing to the surface in that one moment. The playful, cocky Beomgyu was no longer the guy he could easily brush off. No, this guy had something that made Yeonjun want him, needed him, more than he was willing to admit.
