Author's POV

The rest of Beomgyu's first day felt like one long, drawn-out introduction. Teachers calling roll, students staring at him like he was some shiny new toy—he hated the predictability of it all. Even when they whispered about him in the hallways or glanced his way in awe, it didn't excite him the way it used to. He was bored again.

That was until lunch.

Walking into the cafeteria, Beomgyu instantly knew who held the social power in the room. It wasn't hard to spot. Yeonjun sat in the middle of a bustling table, his laughter ringing out above the crowd as his friends hung on his every word. With his perfect posture and sharp confidence, Yeonjun practically radiated charisma.

Beomgyu smirked. He loved a good challenge.

Grabbing his tray, he strode toward Yeonjun's table without hesitation. Heads turned as he passed, conversations faltering as students watched the new guy approach the most popular group in school. The tension in the air was almost palpable.

Yeonjun noticed him immediately. His gaze shifted from his friends to Beomgyu, eyebrows raising slightly in surprise before his expression settled back into that signature smirk. Beomgyu plopped his tray down, ignoring the lingering stares around him.

"Mind if I join?" Beomgyu asked casually, though his tone had a deliberate edge of challenge.

Yeonjun leaned back in his chair, studying him for a moment. "Bold move," he said, tilting his head slightly.

"Figured you'd appreciate it," Beomgyu replied, sitting down without waiting for permission.

Taehyun, one of Yeonjun's closest friends, laughed quietly. "Oh, this is gonna be fun to watch."

The tension eased slightly as Yeonjun's smirk widened, his interest piqued. "So, how's the new kid settling in?"

Beomgyu leaned forward, meeting Yeonjun's gaze with equal intensity. "Not bad. School's alright. The people here seem... interesting enough." His lips curved into a teasing smile as he glanced at Yeonjun. "Though I have to admit, the view at this table's the best I've seen all day."

The group fell silent for a beat before Taehyun and Soobin exchanged amused looks. Yeonjun, to his credit, didn't miss a beat. He chuckled softly, shaking his head. "You're trouble, aren't you?"

Beomgyu shrugged, the picture of innocence. "Depends on who you ask."

Yeonjun leaned forward slightly, his tone dropping just enough to make the conversation feel private despite their audience. "How about we make things interesting, then?"

Beomgyu raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "What did you have in mind?"

"A bet," Yeonjun said, his smirk deepening. "Let's see who can win over the most attention at this school by the end of the week."

Beomgyu laughed, leaning back in his chair. "What's the prize?"

"The loser does whatever the winner says. No questions asked," Yeonjun replied, his tone daring.

Beomgyu considered it for a moment, a playful gleam in his eyes. "Anything?"

"Anything," Yeonjun confirmed, holding out his hand.

Beomgyu leaned forward, gripping Yeonjun's hand firmly as their eyes locked. For a second, it felt like the entire cafeteria was holding its breath.

"You're on," Beomgyu said.

The Afternoon

The bet lit a fire in Beomgyu he hadn't felt in ages. By the time his next class ended, he'd already charmed half the room with his easy smile and quick wit. When the teacher asked for volunteers to answer a question, Beomgyu confidently raised his hand, earning impressed looks from his classmates and an approving nod from the teacher.

Meanwhile, Yeonjun wasn't one to be outdone. During gym class, he dominated the basketball court, scoring point after point while his teammates cheered him on. Beomgyu watched from the bleachers, smirking as he noticed how easily Yeonjun commanded the room's attention.

"Show-off," Beomgyu muttered under his breath, though he couldn't help but feel a flicker of admiration.

________

After School

By the time the final bell rang, Beomgyu had more than a few phone numbers tucked into his pocket. As he made his way to the front steps, he spotted Yeonjun leaning casually against the railing, arms crossed and a smug look on his face.

"Keeping track of your wins?" Beomgyu asked, stopping in front of him.

"Always," Yeonjun replied smoothly. "Though I have to say, you're doing better than I expected. For a rookie."

Beomgyu laughed, stepping closer until there was barely any space between them. "Rookie? Please. I'm a pro at this."

Yeonjun's gaze flicked down briefly before meeting Beomgyu's eyes again, his smirk faltering just slightly. "We'll see about that, Choi."

For a moment, they stood there, the air between them crackling with unspoken tension. Beomgyu could feel his pulse quicken, though he'd never admit it.

"Careful, Yeonjun," Beomgyu said softly, his voice dropping just enough to make Yeonjun pause. "You might find yourself losing this bet before it even starts."

Yeonjun chuckled, his confidence returning as he leaned in just slightly. "We'll see who loses."

As Beomgyu walked away, he couldn't help but grin to himself. For the first time in a long while, he felt genuinely excited. Yeonjun wasn't just a rival—he was a puzzle, a challenge, and maybe even something more.
