The Most Uncomfortable Thing Ever, Hospital Gowns

I could hear beeping. As I opened my eyes I could see that I was in a hospital. My head hurt a little. I could feel tiny tubes inside my nose. My mouth was dry, but I opened it to speak anyway.

“Mom.”

I felt her grab my hand, “I’m here baby,” She spoke through tears, “You scared me. How are you feeling?”

I tried to sit up, “I’m alive. That’s good, right?”

“Don’t push yourself.”

I sat up straight in the bed and held my head in my hands. The blood rushed to my head. I waited until it settled before I looked back at my mother.

“What happened? I just remember slipping into the water.”

“Dylan said you slipped in and one of the guys jumped in after you. Apparently it’s a boy that just moved here. He’s going to be joining your school.”

I tilted my head a little, “He saved me?”

She smiled, “He’s outside… If you want to thank him.”

I smiled, “Maybe later. I don’t think he’ll still be here, but I can always thank him at school.”

“If you are alright with that.”

I noticed the huge dark circles under her eyes, “Mom, you should go home and get some sleep. I’ll be fine.”

“Oh, I know you say that Kimmy, but I just want.”

I cut her off, “It’s okay. I know you want to be here for me, but you can’t very well do that if you’re not feeling to hot either.”

She was about to deny, but thought better of it. I had convinced her. She hugged me and told me to call if I needed anything, then she said she would be back tomorrow. I looked at the door and sighed. Then, even though I probably wasn’t suppose to yet, I removed the tubes inside my nose.

“That wasn’t quite comfortable.”

I swung my feet over the side of the bed and stood up. I was in the typical paper gown, which I wondered who the hell got the bright idea to make. I headed towards the door. The door handle wasn’t that cold. I twisted and looked out the door crack.

Down the hall I could see a few chairs. In one sat a tall guy that looked a little older than me. He had black hair and was wearing baggy jeans and a black sweatshirt. He was looking down at the floor. Next to him was Dylan and Alice. They both seemed very worried and were trying to talk with the guy. I had a feeling that now Alice had seen the new guy, she would be after him very shortly. I didn’t have a problem with that. I hoped it wouldn’t hurt him though.

I grabbed the blanket off the hospital bed and wrapped it around my shoulders. Then I headed over to the door and slowly opened it. I snuck around the corner of the next hallway, keeping my eyes on the ground and hoping I wouldn’t be seen by anyone just yet. There had to be a pair of clothes for me around somewhere. As I started back down the hallway I looked foreword and slammed into something.

“Sorry about that,” A guy said as he stopped me from falling.

I looked up to see the guy that had been listening to my friends a minute ago. I could now see the color of his eyes. They were a dazzling green.

“You’re the guy who saved me, right?”

He still had his hands on my shoulders, “Yes, I am. My name’s Matthew or Matt.”

I smiled, “Kimmy.”

He raised an eyebrow, “Nice to meet you Kimmy. Not like I didn’t meet you already, just you were kind of drowning.”
