In the background, you could hear your friends saying their goodbyes as you walked Anne and Sebastian to the door.
"Lutea...I don't know what to say. Tonight has been so amazing...I never thought..." Her eyes started to fill with tears - she couldn't finish her words, so you just pulled her in and hugged her tightly.
"Being here with all of you is better than any Hogwarts ball." You whispered into her ear.
When you let her go, Sebastian put his arms around you too, giving you a soft kiss on the cheek before stepping back.
"Thank you." He said quietly. You smiled as he placed his arm around Anne, and they turned to go inside. You lingered there for a moment, not really staring through the small window of the door, but just staring. You began to wonder about how things could have been, if there really was a way to help Anne, if she would ever get better.
The snow crunched beneath your feet as you turned around. You watched Sharp wave his wand gracefully as he collected the magical tent back into its portable size. The butterflies surrounding him continued to glow as you stared at him openly.
His coat was long and black. It fit him perfectly but still flowed out at his feet. His scarf was wrapped and pooled around his neck; it seemed to glow along with his feather like companions. He was looking up when the light defined his features; you could see the line of his jaw and the ever so subtle smile he wore as he shooed the butterflies away.
When he was satisfied with the departure of the dancing blue light, he turned to face you; his smile now not so subtle. The snow was quiet but noticeable as you both met each other half way.
"Alone at last," he commented as he raised his hand to cup your cheek. You leaned into it momentarily before gently pushing his hand down - his face scrunched slightly from confusion and worry.
"Wha-"
"You need to tell me what happened back there."
He sighed despite expecting the conversation to happen.
"Can't we get home first?" He asked in exasperation, but only a little bit.
"If we wait until we get home, you're going to distract me or something!"
"Oh? Would my distraction have worked?"
"That's not the point! What was that back there?" You hoped the seriousness of your tone would hide the flush in your face. He sighed again before taking off his scarf and wrapping it around your neck. You stared up at him as he carefully covered you. His eyes stared off into the distance of the scarf as if he were looking into his memories through the knitting.
"Geoffrey Salix is someone I met as an Auror. Despite our rankings, Geoffrey did what he wanted, no matter the consequences or the mission. Geoffrey and his family are very powerful people. Powerful and dangerous."
"I figured that from Theodore."
"Theodore is a puppy compared to Geoffrey, and as much as I dislike him, he is how he is because of his family. He can change... Geoffrey can not."
You stood there for a moment watching his face, Sharp's hands were still on the scarf he placed around you.
"So...he's here because of that we did to Theodore? Because of me?"
"You did nothing. He's here for his pride. He's here for a power trip. If we're being honest, he's probably bored and just trying to find something to play with."
The grip on the scarf was visibly tighter. You raised your hands to touch his and kiss his knuckle softly; you could see his shoulders slowly relax from your touch. You found yourself pulling him in and kissing him softly.
The cold of the snow blended with the warmth of his lips - his tongue sliding slowly as he took you in. After a moment, you both pulled back to breathe. His gaze was on you before flicking behind you. You turned around to see Sebastian and Anne trying to hide behind the curtains as they watched - then ducking different directions when they saw your gaze. You chuckled before turning back around and seeing Sharp's smile again.
"Can we please go home first? I promise we can talk more... but I want to be alone with you... For several reasons."
The flush came back onto your face before you nodded.
