You watched as the new first years gathered into the room in excitement. Their eyes were bright and they were fully animated for their first day- you hoped their time at Hogwarts will not be nearly as exciting as yours.
"Settle down, settle down!" Professor Hecat spoke up in the commotion. "Please, find your seats..."
You stood behind Hecat as the students found their chairs and sat eagerly.
"Welcome- to Defense Against The Dark Arts. A very important class to expand your knowledge and defenses against all aspects of the Dark Arts such as creatures, curses, hexes and more."
"Are we going to duel?" One student asked excitably.
"In due time, however, Defense isn't just about dueling. You shall learn that as the year progresses- along with your remaining years as a student at Hogwarts."
Hecat stood there with her hands behind her back examining the room before turning to face you slightly. She released an arm and gestured to you like she was lifting a curtain.
"This...is Lutea Iram. She will be assisting me in our classes the next few years- and eventually replace me."
The room began to fill with whispers as you stepped forward.
"Isn't she the 'Hero of Hogwarts'?"
"I heard she uses the unforgivables..."
"Is she good enough to teach a class?"
You stood there silently and began fidgeting with your fingers.
"Why should we listen to someone so... Young?"
You looked over to see a Slytherin boy with a sneer on his face. Your brows furrowed before Hecat stepped in.
"Age is but a number, Mister Wright, and I can assure you that Miss Iram here has more experience and knowledge then all of you combined. Now, let's get started, shall we?"
Wright scoffed and rolled his eyes before fetching his textbook- it made you want to Depulso him across the room.
The rest of the class was rather deflating, plenty of questions, but none of they students wanted answers from you. When you tried to assist they turned their backs or ignored you. After class was over you felt defeated and tired. You sighed as you watched the students leave to their next destination.
"Not what you expected?" Hecat asked behind you.
You turned around to face her and tried to hide your disappointment with a smile.
"Well...it is the first day, I'm not sure what to expect."
"The lessons and lectures are one thing, but teaching to children are another. Don't fret, you will find your rhythm."
"My rhythm?"
"Every Professor has their own teaching style; it's more than grabbing their attention. There is some time before the next class, why don't you take a break? Perhaps someone may appreciate a visit..." She gave you that signature knowing smirk before turning around and heading up to her office.
You knew exactly who she was talking about- and you weren't going to argue.
When you arrived at the potions classroom you peeked around the door to see how far into the class he was in. Instead of standing tall in the center as he usually did, you saw him leaning against his round desk with his arms crossed. His face was stern but not unusual.
"...Tomorrow we will continue our discussion on the methods of stirring and mixing. Class is dismissed."
You stood aside to let the students pass and peeked back in when the last of them were gone. He was turned around now leaning over the desk; both his hands were pressed against the wood as he held himself up.
