He slid off the bed, excited to meet Vihaan, his feet pattered against the floor as we walked down the stairs from where he turned into the living room.
He glanced around, finding no one in sight, he looked around the dining area. "Uncle Ro?"
"B-Baba." Vansh whispered, testing the word on his tongue.
"Vansh, what are you doing here, baby? I was looking for you upstairs?" Roman asked, stepping inside the dining room.
"Uncle Ro?"
"Yes, Vanshu." Roman said, running his fingers through Vansh's hair to set it in place.
Vansh glanced behind Roman, "W-Where's B-Baba?"
Roman's eyes snapped to Vansh, he blinked his eyes, had he just heard the word 'baba' from him?
"Say that again baby."
If he was so happy to hear the word than how would Vihaan feel once he heard it from his son? He couldn't wait to see his reaction!
Vansh's lip trembled, "B-Baba."
"No, no, no. What's wrong, Vanshu? Why the tears?" Roman panicked, pulling Vansh into his arms.
"B-Baba," Vansh repeated.
Roman patted Vansh's head, "He'll be back soon, baby."
Truth was, Vihaan hadn't been picking Roman's calls either, but he wasn't worried. This wasn't the first time Vihaan had disappeared on him like this.
Vansh shook his head, he was afraid that Vihaan had left him. Was it because he hadn't accepted him any sooner? He didn't know the answer to that, only Vihaan could answer to him.
The mere thought of Vihaan not coming back, broke the child down into harsh sobs and Roman rubbed his back in hopes of calming down, "Vanshu, it's okay, baccha. Your Baba will be back soon. We can beat him together when he's back. It'll teach him a lesson to pick up our calls."
Roman stared worriedly at Vansh, he wasn't showing any signs of silencing the painful sobs, so he lifted Vansh into his, ignoring the pain he felt in his arms. He could feel blood dribbling through his bandage but he couldn't be asked to care for it.
"Shh. Don't cry, Vanshu." Roman murmured, gently rocking him in his arms.
"W-Want B-Baba, please!" Vansh cried.
"How about we try calling him?" Roman asked, praying to God that by some miracle Vihaan picks up his call.
"Call?" Vansh choked out.
"Yes, baby. But before that stop crying. How will you speak to your Baba if you keep shedding tears like that."
"I-I'm not crying, anymore. Call Baba, please." Vansh stuttered, trying his best to wipe the tears.
Roman hummed and pulled out his phone from his pocket, his thumb hovering over Vihaan's name before he clicked on it.
When the phone went to voicemail, Vansh started at him with his big, brown, innocent eyes, and Roman didn't have the heart to tell him that his phone hadn't been answered.
Vansh's eyes teared up, he understood Roman's silence, "B-Baba didn't pick up?"
"Don't worry, we'll call him again-Vanshu, no baby, it's okay. I'm pretty sure he must be busy or your Baba always picks up."
Vansh felt as if his only hope had shattered. He didn't know how he'd ever find his Baba again. The thought of not being able to meet him made him cry harder.
