Dean was on another job with Sam.

Dad was doing his best to not ask for help with anything.

I was at home, in the apartment, sleeping in bed.

A dog barking from a neighbor's house woke me.

I looked around, seeing Dean, startled, sitting up. "Dean."

"Hey," Dean told me.

I turned on the nightstand lamp.

Dean looked away.

"Hey," I told him. "Thought you were on a job."

"Yeah," Dean answered. "Yeah, I wanted to see you."

Dean sat on the bed.

"What's up?" I asked. "Are you okay?"

"Listen..." Dean trailed off.

I noticed how he was looking away from the light, how he was overwhelmed and trying to keep himself under control. "What's going on?"

"I doesn't matter," Dean told me. "But I need you to know... just, uh... Thank you. Okay? For everything."

I slid out from underneath the covers, closer to Dean. "Dean?"

Dean set his jaw, standing, turning away. "Oh, God, I'm Pattinson."

"What?" I asked.

"Nothing," Dean told me. "I... I got to go."

"Dean, you're not okay," I told him. "Look, maybe you should just stay."

"I can't, Ness," Dean told me. "Believe me, I wish it was different."

I stood. "Just stop. What's going on out there?"

"Ness, I can't believe this is happening," Dean told me.

"What's happening?" I asked.

Dean didn't answer. "What is going on, it's ugly, and it's violent, and I'm gonna die. Soon."

I stepped closer. "Just tell me. What the hell is going on?" I took his hands in mine, concerned. Dean looked like he was listening to something, grabbing my shoulders, pushing me against the wall. I looked at Dean in confusion, starting to breathe slightly heavier. Dean narrowed his eyes, moving closer, starting to stray toward my neck, pulling away, turning his back to me. "Dean?"

"I gotta go," Dean told me, running out, leaving.

I walked out into the hallway to see that he was gone. I walked toward the door, seeing it open, and Dean gone without a trace.

What the hell?
