Chapter 17: Unexpected Turns
The next day, Fathiya woke up feeling unusually lighthearted. Her thoughts immediately drifted to the messages she exchanged with Rayyan the night before. A smile crept onto her face as she joined her siblings at the dining table for breakfast. Anam, who was supposed to return home, had managed to convince her husband to let her stay a bit longer, as he was traveling to China for two weeks.

Abdallah, noticing the glow on Fathiya's face, teased her, "Ah ahn, where did the sun rise from today? Anya, Fathiya kuwa?"

Anam joined in, grinning. "Ko dai kin shirya ne da Farhan?"

Fathiya chuckled, spreading jam on her bread, "Wanchan dan wahalan ya zo min office jiya, in ba ku labari." (That troublemaker came to my office yesterday, I didn't tell you all.)

Hisham leaned in, curious. "He said what?"

"Wai he made a promise to someone not to tell me anything until after the wedding. Bla bla bla," Fathiya said, rolling her eyes.

"Ikon Allah," Abdallah exclaimed, shaking his head. "Toh waye kuma zaiyi wa promise haka?" (Who would make him promise such a thing?)

"Koh waye "anam said confused trying to figure out

"Bazai wuce wanchan 'yar wahalan ba, Amal." (It must be that troublemaker, Amal,) fathiya   said knowingly.

"Ohh," Anam said in realization, laughing.

"Iskanci ne ai," (It's all nonsense,) Fathiya muttered just as her phone rang. The siblings immediately responded in unison, "Kaka Mamaaaa!"

Kaka Mama's cheerful voice came through the phone, "Ah ahn, en jikokina!" (Oh my grandchildren!) she exclaimed, delighted to hear them all together.

"Kune duka a hade yau," (You're all gathered today?) she marveled.

Abdallah, ever the playful one, replied in a dramatic tone, "Eh, Walahi, Kaka, Kuma munyi kewarki." (Yes, Kaka, and we've missed you!)

Hisham added, in a playful accusation, "Su en Makkah amma dai kin chanja pata, ko?" (Makkah people , you have changed your skin , right ?)

Kaka Mama laughed heartily. "Ni dama nasan baka da kai Walahi dan fari," (I knew you didn't have sense, Mr first born ,) she teased, and everyone burst into laughter.

After more playful banter, Kaka Mama's tone softened, and she turned serious. "Fathiya, call me later, kinji? When you're alone, akwai maganar da zamuyi." (There's something we need to talk about.)

"Toh, Kaka Mama," Fathiya responded, her curiosity piqued.

Anam couldn't resist chiming in, "Iyye, har wani secret secret akeyi? Toh nima a fara mun mana." (Oh, so there are secrets being shared? Well, share  with me too!)

Kaka Mama jokingly replied, "Keh dallah! Lokacin da nake naki, ina kiranta ne! Kar ki bata min rai fa," (Oh, please! Do I used to call her when it was your turn. Don't upset me,) prompting another round of laughter.

They wrapped up the call, with Fathiya agreeing to call her grandmother later.

Later that night, as Fathiya lay in bed, she received a message from Rayyan.

"Hey beautiful," it read.

"Hey handsome," she responded, feeling the butterflies from earlier return.

"Oh wow, we're getting there," he teased. "So, am I really handsome?"

Fathiya paused for a moment, realizing she hadn't really paid much attention to his looks before. She quickly replied, "Send me your picture, let me be sure."

Within seconds, a photo popped up on her phone. Fathiya stared at it for a long while, her heart racing. "Wow," she whispered under her breath.

Rayyan's message followed, "So, am I?"

"Yes," Fathiya replied, sending a shy emoji.

"I like it when you feel shy," Rayyan typed, and Fathiya couldn't help but blush, her cheeks warming.

Just then, a notification from Farhan interrupted her. The message read, Why are you online?

Fathiya frowned, staring at the message before replying, What's your business? Farhan saw the message, but before he could respond, she realized how harsh it sounded and quickly deleted it. She knew he had seen it, though.

Farhan typed again, Who are you chatting with?

Irritated, Fathiya replied, Leave me alone.

I thought you needed time and space, he messaged back, his tone frustrated.

That is what I want, she said, not you stalking me everywhere.

Fathiya, go offline, he typed angrily.

Who are you to tell me what to do? she shot back.

Farhan's frustration was palpable. He responded with, Okay, then do what you want, followed by an angry emoji.

At that moment, another message from Rayyan popped up. Wanna meet? Fathiya stared at the message, unsure of what to do. Her emotions swirled in confusion. She didn't open the message but instead turned off her phone, feeling overwhelmed. She lay in bed, thinking about how complicated her life had become.

Meanwhile, at Farhan's house, he stormed into the bedroom, visibly upset. Amal, startled by his entrance, looked at him with concern.

"Lafiya kuwa, baby?" (Is everything okay, baby?) she asked, noticing his mood.

"Ba komai," (Nothing,) he muttered in an irritated tone as he threw his phone onto the sofa and lay down, pulling the duvet over himself.

"Ikon Allah," (God's power,) Amal muttered under her breath, switching off the lights. She joined him in bed, though both of them drifted into an uneasy sleep, each lost in their own thoughts.
