Evanescence

She was the girl who didn't truly know herself;
She was the girl that struggled to decipher the true nature of her being.
Her name was Cathy,
A girl who classed herself as painfully ordinary.

She was the girl who blended shyly into
A crowd of rambunctiousness.
She was the girl who spent a quarter of her school life
Wallowing in the miseries created by an illusion; her spirits drenched in a pool of sadness.

She called herself shy,
She called herself worthless.
Little did she know that true talent
Hid behind her timidness.

One fine crisp morning, she overcame her indecisiveness.
She would be Cathy the Brave, Cathy the Bold,
The girl who didn't do as told,
She wouldn't be herself; she'd get rid of her shyness.

There was a boy; a mystery just like her.
A boy who actually met her gaze.
And greeted her with
A genuine smile every day.

She would blush a soft pink and look away,
Her hair falling over her face like a curtain.
But he wouldn't go away; he wasn't like the others.
He'd stay and make sure that she was okay.

She met him an year ago,
But still didn't learn his name.
Maybe he was called Will or Francisco.
Maybe his name was Jace.

She smiled sadly,
Letting a tear fall away.
Maybe she'd never know,
Maybe he'd just push her away; maybe he won't let her stay.

They were like a patter of rain,
Consistent yet not so loud.
They were no raging storms;
Just the hum of tiny droplets against a background of white sound.

Together, their souls would meld,
They hadn't spoken the fateful words yet,
But their eyes would outshine the doubts in their hearts,
The light of love would glow luminously against the intimidating dark.

Their lips connected on a bright evening,
As the golden sunset dimmed.
Both were happy, so euphoric.
When all they'd expected was chagrin.

The end, however, didn't go to plan,
For it wasn't a happy one.
Their last breaths mixed together in a hurried kiss,
When Cathy and Carl were lost to the sound of a gun.
