They agreed it was just physical. No strings, no feelings, no mess. But when you are teammates, roommates and maybe something more. It's only a matter of time before the rules begin to blur.
The past 2 days were no different than how the past few weeks were. No talk about the impulsive hookup, and definitely no word about the tension that rose when Paige and Lana were in a room together.
The two girls intended on pretending as though nothing had ever happened, as if their night had ended by watching 10 things I hate about you and easily falling asleep.
The pair had decided to follow up on their earlier plans of watching Love and Basketball.
Paige had seen Love and Basketball about a million times before. She would watch it all the time in middle school; why wouldn't she? Her life practically revolved around basketball and anything to do with the game.
So she wouldn't say she lied to Lana; no, she would say she didn't properly clarify. In her defense, the question caught her off guard.
Paige pulled the neckline of her sweatshirt up to cover her mouth as she found herself sheepishly smiling. Not at the film that was playing on the screen in front of them, but instead at the girl who sat next to her. She thought it was amusing how Lana thought she was doing God's work by introducing the movie to Paige.
Maybe this time the movie was better than she remembered, or maybe it was the mere experience that began changing her perception of the 2000s movie.
"I'm going to grab a coke; do you want one?" Lana stood up from the couch, bending over to grab the box of pizza that lay open on the floor.
"Uh, yeah, sure," Paige answered discreetly, trying to check Lana out.
"Lana" Paige called out from the living space in the suite that they shared; it had just been the two girls because Ice had been out with Nika and Aubrey had gone to see her girlfriend.
"What?" Lana spoke, taking a sip of coke before entering the living space once again.
"Let's start having sex," Paige spoke confidently, as if her proposition were something you heard every day.
Laughing at her words, Lana only realized the blonde in front of her was being serious when her facial expressions never shifted.
"I'm not interested in you like that," Lana said again, scrunching her eyebrows together, still confused if the other girl was being serious or not.
"That's why it's perfect; I'm not interested in you either." Paige spoke as though she was ready to make a sales pitch for a luxury car.
"Look, P, I don't even know if I find you attractive."
"That's cute" Her face is still stoic.
"Well, I do have a thing for jerks." Lana spoke lowly, a smile creeping on her face. "Okay, well, do you even find me attractive?" She said now, raising her voice again. "And I mean before you got to know my awesome personality. I mean strictly physical. First time you saw me."
Paige licked her lips as if she were ready to reveal a secret. "Okay, this is just two people talkin'?"
"Two girls over girls down at Teds." Lana spoke with her hands, "Go."
"I liked your eyes; I didn't think I'd ever seen such big, beautiful eyes," Paige spoke, maintaining strong eye contact. Growing up, Lana hadn't been fond of her eyes; everyone in her family had colored eyes; it was fair to say she felt like a black sheep.
Poking her tongue into her cheek, "I liked your hair; it reminded me of summer."
It was Paige's turn now, "your lips."
"You hands," Lana sounded down bad.
"Your butt," Paige couldn't help herself either, apparently.
"Your tits"
"Really, I feel like they are really small," Paige started.
"Yeah, but they're still boobs." Lana shrugged.
"Your nose is really nice."
"Your voice; it's kind of funny when you say certain things."
"That's crazy, your eyes."
"You already said that." The tension had escalated quickly, and the room felt as though it was closing in on the two basketball players.
"I meant it." Lana couldn't help but look into Paige's eyes for a second longer. She knew that the decision was in her hands.
"You swear it's just sex?" She questioned.
"yes." Paige seemed strong in her answer. Maybe this was the best situation for the two.
Lana wasn't really looking for a relationship, especially after what happened with her last one. And Paige simply didn't have time.
This way both girls would have their needs catered too; maybe this was the ideal thing to do.
Lana went back into the kitchen area and started opening random drawers. Scavenging for something, leaving Paige concerned at the amount of noise from the other room.
Lana smiled as she walked back into the living space, this time holding a pen in one hand and a bright pink post-it note in the other. "We are writing down rules."
"On that? A post it note? What are we? In greys anatomy?" Paige attempted to tease the girl.
"Shut up, I love Grey's anatomy," Lana scowled. Uncapping the pen and beginning to write:
RULES
* no relationship
* No emotions
* just sex
Lana looked up at Paige in hopes for some sort of input to their new list of rules.
"Whatever happens, we stay friends." Paige didn't want this arrangement to ruin the strong friendship between the girls, but in all reality, something about sneaking around and having forbidden sex intrigued her.
Lana Jackson __________
"You have to sign at the bottom," Lana ordered, and Paige did just that.
Lana Jackson Paige Bueckers
