They agreed it was just physical. No strings, no feelings, no mess. But when you are teammates, roommates and maybe something more. It's only a matter of time before the rules begin to blur.

The start of it all October 12, 2023 Flashback ..............................................................................
"Damn, how long is this movie?" Paige asked as she threw her head back in annoyance.
Lana and Paige had been posted up in Lana's bed watching one of her all-time favorite rom-coms, 10 Things I Hate About You. When asked why it was her favorite movie, she explained that it was because Patrick loved Kat loudly. And even though it was artificial at first, she liked the way that he wasn't ashamed of her; he was willing to sing in front of countless students in order to get her attention. He made the most obnoxious gestures that if she were to see in the real world she would probably be slightly concerned, but the movie always managed to pull at her heartstrings. A perk being the extremely hot casting.
"Hey! No, the ending is good, I swear." Lana laughed, her eyes not daring to move from the screen. They had just gotten to the part where Kat hits a car.
Paige had glanced at the small clock that sat on Lana's side table, reading
12:59 a.m
"We should play a game or something instead," Paige offered, boredom evident in her voice.
"Ugh, you suck," Lana rubbed her face, trying to cover her amusement. "Alright, Miss Bueckers, what game would you like to play?" She continued her teasing, "Hm? Maybe a game of chess, or I know you definitely like sudoku; don't cha." Clicking her tongue at the last word, Lana found herself very funny, trying to hide her laughter from her cruel antics.
"Hey, shut up; we could play 20 questions." Paige leaned over to the bowl of candy that had been resting on the side table beside the clock.
"Okay, my turn first though." Without giving Paige a second to respond, she asked her question, "What is your favorite rom-com?" Lana was genuinely curious: if the girl didn't like 10 Things I Hate About You, what in the world did she like?
"I don' know. I don't really watch rom-coms, to be honest." Paige tried to think of a rom-com that popped into her head, but of course, when put on the spot, she went blank.
Lana's mouth only fell agape at her friends answer.
"We are gonna to watch love and basketball next week," Paige smirked at the girl's persistence.
"Why do you like rom-coms so much?"
"I don't know; it's just nice to pretend that love like that exists. Maybe not in this universe, but somewhere." Lana shrugged her shoulders to hide her embarrassment, but the red coloring that rushed into her cheeks certainly blew her cover.
"You're telling me that you don't believe in love??" Paige's eyebrows quirked; she was kind of surprised by the answer. Lana always seemed like she would be a lover girl.
"Well, I did, but I have been told that I am too emotionally damaged. I waited for my entire childhood to be swept off my feet, but it never happened. Then, in my sophomore year of high school, my boyfriend, of years 2, might I add, dumped me. Like straight up. He told me I have to stop waiting for some sort of prince charming to come and save me, because 'that shits not real.'" Lana said the last part in a deep voice while throwing air quotations with her fingers in hopes of lightning the conversation. "Anyways then, my senior year I had another boyfriend and he cheated on me, so now I have learned that the true love that all those Disney princesses portray is a bunch of bull." Lana finished by reaching into the bowl to grab a peach gummy ring.
