While Maskwa and Sam escorted Kiri, Kan, Chit, Paitoon, a Doctor, a paramedic and the mountie up to the resort, the men back at the village continued chopping wood to keep the fire burning.
Raz and Pon had stayed behind, they couldn't shift into their wolves but they could still use their superior sense of smell to tell if anyone had been overlooked and remained buried beneath the snow and luckily everyone had survived, even the animals.
The women cooked and kept everyone fed and the men folk shovelled the snow and tried to clear the houses.
They couldn't live in them any more as they were but they could salvage clothing and pieces of undamaged furniture as they went and then when spring came they could clear the land properly and rebuild the houses.
Any timber which was still good could be salvaged and the wood that couldn't be used for building was used for firewood.
They constructed a makeshift outhouse for the women and elders with a bucket inside and every day they would take the bucket into the forest and bury the contents but the young guys would just go behind a tree.
When Kiri got up to the resort his first job was to assess the damage, Maskwa and Sam took care of the horses while the Dr and paramedic went to see if all the guests and staff were alright.
The explosion had been caused by the earthquake dislodging some gas pipes in the kitchens and they guessed that sparks from the mains had ignited the leaking gas. Luckily no one had been injured and the resort manager had shut off the gas and electricity for safety reasons.
They had a back up generator which had been situated in the basement directly under the kitchen so it hadn't been safe to go down there.
The manager had been able to send a message to the Halfway Farm before all communications and the internet had gone down and since then they had been managing to feed the guests on canned supplies and they had placed all the perishable food beneath the snow to keep it cold.
When Kiri was brought up to speed, everyone including all the guests assembled in the large reception area and Kiri addressed them all.
He informed everyone how nothing could get up the mountain right now and they couldn't fly in until the snow stopped, he asked everyone to continue to remain calm and assured them that there was now a Dr and paramedic on site and that they had medical supplies.
"guys, I know it's going to be difficult but we will get through this together and as soon as the snow stops I will be making sure you all get back home safely, you will all receive full refunds and if you want to come back it will of course be free,
according to weather reports, the last time the snow was this bad was over twenty five years ago and the last recorded earthquake and avalanche in this area was about 80 years ago so I'm pretty sure we've had our fair share of bad luck for this lifetime" Kiri laughed and continued,
"thank you each and every one of you for remaining calm throughout all of this and just so you know, there are a tribe of people down the mountain who have lost everything, they are presently sheltering in bark covered tent's around a bonfire ..."
Maskwa and Sam entered the room as Kiri was talking.
"you should all know that this man right here almost died rescuing his horses and if it wasn't for him and his partner here, we wouldn't have made it up the mountain and the Halfway Farm and surrounding farms provided the horses and supplies, we're going to get through this people, we just have to pull together until the snow stops" Kiri said and everyone began to applaud except for one man who called out to Kiri,
