The days passed quickly and Maskwa and Sam had fallen into a comfortable routine where they would get up and Maskwa would go outside to feed the chickens and horses while Sam made coffee and started on breakfast and Maskwa would come back inside with a handful of freshly laid eggs for the breakfast table.
Sam had noticed that he always took a torch out to the coop with him even in the daylight and Maskwa explained how he checked the eggs to ensure that he only took the unfertilised ones away from their momma's.
He told Sam how in the old days they would use candles but a torch was a lot more reliable because it was brighter.
After breakfast, Maskwa would go down to the basement to work with his wood while Sam did any household chores that needed his attention, one thing was for sure, Maskwa's mom wouldn't come back to a messy house.
Sam would make a light lunch and go down to fetch Maskwa when it was ready then in the afternoon they would take a stroll or go horseback riding and Sam's horsemanship was improving daily even though he rode the pack horse but she was an easy going girl and she was the perfect choice with whom to hone his riding skills.
Maskwa hadn't said anything but he had a friend in a village several miles away who had the most perfect young mare for Sam.
She was just over three years old, pretty and graceful just like him with a chestnut coat and a pale butterscotch mane and tail, she was the prettiest palomino Maskwa had ever seen and he had been texting his friend with regards to buying her for Sam.
He knew that Sam couldn't be here all the time but she would be here waiting for him when he came back and Maskwa hoped to present her to him in the next few days so that Sam could bond with her before he left, he couldn't wait to see Sam's face when he gifted him his very own horse.
He knew she was a huge gift but he also knew that he wanted Sam in his life for keeps, it would be difficult at first considering they both lived in different countries and even though they hadn't actually discussed their future he was confident that they could make it work.
In the evenings, they would both prepare dinner together after taking care of the animals and then after the dishes were done they would settle down to watch another episode of the drama, they delighted in each other's company and talked a lot while getting to know each other better.
Maskwa's parents kept in touch and kept him informed how his grandmother was getting along and they had told him that they would probably be back home in about a week give or take.
As far as their relationship was concerned they had kissed a lot and things had gotten pretty steamy but Maskwa had remained the perfect gentleman and Sam was beginning to wonder if he was grateful or disappointed.
Sam had decided that he was ready to take things to the next level, the question was how to let Maskwa know without coming across as too forward?
As it was, Maskwa had been acting a little weird just lately and he seemed to be on his cellphone an awful lot especially when he was out in the yard or down in the basement and Sam thought he'd heard him speaking in English but whenever he went into the room he would speak in his native tongue so of course Sam had no idea what he was saying or whom he was talking to.
He couldn't help wondering if he had overstayed his welcome and maybe the shine was wearing thin and Sam wondered if Maskwa was beginning to think that he wasn't as great a catch as he had initially thought but other than his secretive phone calls, nothing had changed between them.
He decided not to worry too much about it just yet but his concerns grew after dinner one evening a few days later when Maskwa asked him if he would be ok alone for a few hours the following day.
