In an office which was situated about eight hours away from Bangkok a man sat behind a desk with his cell phone pressed to his ear, his fingers tapping as he waited impatiently for the person he was calling to pick up.
A light knock on the door distracted him and the door slowly opened for a pretty face to peek in questioningly and when the man smiled at the visitor, he entered the room with more confidence.
"hey baby, I didn't want to disturb you but breakfast is ready"
"thanks but I'm trying to get through to that bastard, I sent him on ahead to get things ready for us and he's supposed to keep in touch, it's been almost twenty four hours since we last spoke and he's not picking up my call's" the man behind the desk said.
"you know what he's like though, he's probably binge watching a drama"
"I didn't send him there to watch fucking TV though"
"calm down baby, he's probably got everything in hand, he'll be in touch just be pati ..... ahhh"
The pretty young man fell to his knees on the patterned rug and began to rock to and fro groaning in pain as his fingers pressed against his temples and the man behind the desk jumped up to rush to his side.
"what is it baby, what can I do to help?"
"shiyaa baby, I think we need to go back ..."
"you mean ...?"
"they're in trouble, I can sense it"
Sam woke up to incessant pounding on his door, he rolled over and looked at the time on his cell phone mentally noting that there was still no message from Maskwa then he climbed out of bed before padding to the door of his apartment to see Paitoon's image on the security screen.
He pressed the button to allow his friend access and went into the kitchen to make coffee while toonie made his way upstairs,
"Sam, Sam where the hell are you?" Paitoon called out as he ran through the hallway.
"I'm in the kitchen, shiyaa" Sam called back.
"fucking hell Sam" Paitoon gasped and took a few moments catching his breath.
"what's up baby boy?" Sam asked him.
"it's the ski resort near Maskwa's village, they've been having bad weather up there for days and the power has been going out, we only just got word from some place called the Halfway Farm, Sam you better sit down" Paitoon said.
"just tell me bro' what's going on?" Sam asked.
"there was an earthquake yesterday at around lunchtime, our time"
"fuck, I need to get there, I need to book a flight" Sam said
"calm down Sam, Chit is going with Kiri and Kan and I nagged him until he said that we could go as well, they need to get to the hotel to assess the damage, you've got an hour to pack" toonie said.
"damage?" Sam asked as he raced into his bedroom to grab a rucksack and start throwing things in.
"yeah, there was an explosion or something and part of the resort collapsed, luckily it was the early hours of the morning there so most of the guests were in their rooms at the other end but still"
"do you know anything about the village?"
"no one had heard anything from there for days bro' because the girls from the village who work at the resort couldn't get to work ... there's something else I didn't tell you yet ..."
