Chapter 14 ~ stormy weather ~

"oh hi, a mocha for me, what are you having Sam" Paitoon said.

"a caramel latte" Sam replied with a faraway look on his face.

"oh man, you have it bad bro" Paitoon said as the waitress took their orders and walked away.

"I'm sorry toonie, I guess I'm just not good company right now"

"nonsense, we're friends and friends stick together no matter what, ok so tell me your thoughts" 

"my thoughts ... I guess I'm taking a step back and seeing all my life choices and comparing them to my experiences with Maskwa and his family" Sam explained.

"are you sure it's just not the newness of everything, I mean if you lived like that full time wouldn't you get tired of it?" Paitoon asked him.

"well if I said no I guess I'd be lying but then again, even with everything I have now I get tired of the same old, same old" Sam replied.

"ok, so what would you do for a living if you lived up there?" Paitoon asked him.

"come on toonie' ... I don't even need to work any more, I made some pretty sweet investments over the years but we both know I'm about ready to retire ... why even that toy that's sitting out there, you know the second hand price could feed a few families for a good long time, I can't even remember why I wanted it now? you know when I was up that mountain, I never felt so free and both Maskwa and his parents accepted me as I am with no bells and whistles" Sam replied

"it seems to me that you're mind is already made up bro' you just came back to tie up your loose ends, listen, you should do what makes you happy and don't worry about what anyone else thinks, you will always have my full support and you know I'll always be there for you" Paitoon said.

"I know toonie, who would have thought that I would fall in love with a rugged backwoodsman type and move almost to the top of a mountain" Sam smiled.

"I'm really happy for you Sam, you deserve to be happy" Paitoon said.

"did I show you the picture of Cara' the horse he bought for me? she really is a sweetie toonie"

"you did yeah, she'd beautiful, not that I know a lot about horses but yeah, she's a stunner" Paitoon said as the waitress returned with their coffee then they spent the next hour putting the world to rights.

A little later, Paitoons fiancé Chit walked in and asked him if he was ready to go?

"how the hell do you always know where he is?" Sam asked Chit.

"it's my job to know" Chit shrugged.

In truth Chit was overly protective because of what had happened to Paitoon when they had first met and several months later when he and his friends had been held captive so he made it his business to know where toonie was every second that he wasn't with him.

After promising to keep in touch, the three of them walked outside and Sam walked with them both across to Chit's work van, a black armoured vehicle and gave toonie a hug while Chit opened the passenger door for him.

"call me if you need me Sam" toonie said as Chit walked around to the drivers side.

"will do baby boy" Sam said putting his shades back on and waving as Chit drove them away.

Sam walked back to his car and went back to his apartment then once inside he decided to make a list of everything he needed to do before he could go back, he needed to sell the apartment and his car and he wouldn't be renewing his modelling contract, at his age he was classed as too old anyway.
