Chapter 13 ~ just another minute ~

Start from the beginning

"hey Maskwa, you made it" the local guide said as his wife ushered them both inside.

The guide called one of his staff to take the horses and give them a rub down and refreshments,

"please be gentle with Cara, she doesn't like heavy hands" Sam said as he watched the young man lead the horses away.

"so you're flying back to Thailand tonight?" the woman asked Sam.

"yes" Sam replied.

"you stayed a lot longer than your friends, did you enjoy it?" she asked.

"well yes, Maskwa and I ..."

Sam didn't know if Maskwa would appreciate their personal business being made common knowledge so he decided to say something else,

"I was staying in Maskwa's house so his parents asked me to keep him company when they went to his grandmothers" Sam said.

"that and the fact that we're dating" Maskwa said with a smile on his face.

"well I must confess, your mother did mention something about that when they were passing through" she smiled.

Sam blushed but Maskwa didn't seem to mind.

They went into the kitchen and were given a bowl of stew with some crusty bread and a nice hot mug of coffee and they all sat for a while chatting until Sam heard the low growl of an engine.

"it sounds like your ride to the airport is here Sam" the guide said standing up to go and have a look.

"well, no doubt we'll see you again Sam, have a safe flight home" the guide's wife said before taking the dishes and leaving Sam and Maskwa to go outside.

There was a 4x4 waiting to ferry him to the nearest airport so he handed his bag to the driver before asking,

"can I just go and say goodbye to my horse?"

"sure, were good for ten minutes" the driver said then resumed chatting with the guide.

Sam and Maskwa walked into the barn and saw their horses enjoying a well earned break and walking up to Cara, Sam began to stroke and gently pat her.

"Cara, I'm going to miss you so much but I'm going to think about you every single day, don't you worry I'll be back soon and we're going to have so much fun" Sam said.

Maskwa looked on with a lump in his throat, he knew that Cara was going to miss Sam too as they all were.

Sam spent a few more minutes with Cara then they walked back outside to the 4x4 and the guide shook his hand before walking back into his house and leaving them to say their own farewells.

The driver sat behind the wheel as Sam looked at Maskwa.

"I'm going to miss you so much Maskwa"

"I'm going to miss you too baby" he replied

"promise me you won't start drinking again when I'm gone"

"I promise" Maskwa said.

"I'll call you when I can but I'll send you a message every day, maybe you'll get tired of me messaging you?" Sam laughed.

"never"

"ok then, I'd better ..."

Maskwa pulled Sam into his arms and kissed him fiercely and possessively as if trying to imprint himself into his lover's memory. Sam's fingers threaded through Maskwa's hair one final time as their tongues clashed.

Sam moaned as Maskwa deepened the kiss, his hands skimming down Sam's body beneath his coat to ...

The sound of coughing brought them back to their senses and Sam looked up to see the driver had got out of the car to come around to them both,

"I'm sorry to bother you Mr Chalarmsong but we really need to get going now or you could miss your flight" the driver said.

"I'm sorry, please, just another minute" Sam said.

The driver walked round the 4x4 and climbed back in.

"I'm sorry Maskwa but I need to go, I ... love you" Sam said.

"I love you too baby, let me know when you arrive" Maskwa said giving him one last kiss before releasing him.

Sam climbed into the back of the car and rolled down the window,

"be careful going back up the mountain" Sam said.

"I will baby" Maskwa replied.

"we'll talk soon" Sam said as the driver fired up the engine and the car began to roll forward crunching the snow beneath the chained tyres.

"I love you Sam" Maskwa called out but the car was speeding up and Sam didn't have the chance to reply.

Maskwa watched as the car disappeared down the track then he sighed deeply before heading back into the barn to saddle up the horses, it was time to set off back up the hill.
