"just a few horseback shots tomorrow, they should be pretty easy for big chief nags a lot over there" the photographer said.
"and then that's it?" Sam asked.
"yup, we can all head back down the mountain the morning after, I already called the guy with the horses"
"you did?" Sam said ... he wouldn't have any time with Maskwa at all.
"you could always stay on and make your own way back babes" the photographer added knowingly.
"I'll let you know tomorrow, I'd have to ask Maskwa's parents if they mind me staying a few more days first" Sam said.
"trust me baby, they won't mind" Maskwa replied.
"maybe not but I'd feel better asking them" Sam smiled.
After they had finished the coffee, Maskwa and Sam headed back to his house and as they walked Maskwa took hold of Sams hand intertwining their fingers.
"are you scared your people will see?" Sam asked him
"baby you're my ninâpêm, my male lover ..." Maskwa said
"not quite" Sam replied.
"no, not quite but soon" Maskwa corrected him
When they walked inside the house, Maskwa's parents were waiting for him with worried looks on their faces.
"what's wrong guys?" Maskwa said.
"we have to go down the mountain son, tomorrow we'll ride down to the Halfway Farm and leave our horses there until we come back"
"but why?" Maskwa asked them
"we have to head to Buffalo Pass to see kitôhkomimâw, your grandmother, she slipped and hurt her leg" Maskwas mother said.
"do you want me to go with you?" Maskwa asked them.
"no son it's ok, there is nothing you can do plus you need to be here to take care of the animals and our guest, I'm going because I don 't want your mother travelling down there by herself" his father added.
"but I can leave, please don't worry about me" Sam said.
"nonsense Sam, you must stay as long as you want, it will help me knowing that Maskwa isn't alone up here" Maskwa's mother said.
"I'll go on up so you guys can talk" Sam said leaving the family alone and heading upstairs.
"are you sure you guys will be ok?" Maskwa asked his parents.
"positive son, kitôhkomimâw just needs someone to stay with her for a few days, we will be back before you know it" his mother said.
"ok then"
"look after the chickens won't you son" his father said.
"kêhcinâ, of course I will father"
"thank you son"
"Sam was going to ask if he could stay a few more days anyway, is that ok?" Maskwa asked his parents.
"of course it is, as I said he can stay as long as he wants, he'll soon be family anyway" Maskwa's mother smiled.
"then just let me go and shower and I'll come down to help with dinner" Maskwa said.
"yes, you go and get washed up and talk to Sam, he looked rather concerned before" Maskwa's father added.
Maskwa went upstairs and walked across to the door of the guest bedroom before knocking on it.
"come in" a small voice called out.
