Chapter 7 ~ time to move on ~

Start from the beginning

"nagh ... want to kisssss" Sam began snoring and Maska couldn't help but laugh.

This guy, what was he going to do with him, more importantly ... they only had a few days together and Maskwa couldn't let him leave without telling him how he felt or that he wanted to continue seeing him, but how could they make it work? could they make it work? would Sam want to make it work?

Should he listen to Paitoon's advice and become a model himself but he wasn't sure that life was for him, he would miss riding his horse up the mountain and just being one with nature. Maybe he shouldn't even be thinking things like these, maybe it was too soon after all, they had only met a few days ago.

Let's just enjoy the moment and think about tomorrow when tomorrow comes.

Maskwa managed to reach behind him to turn off the lamp then he turned back to Sam who was muttering in his sleep and he wrapped his arms around him and closed his eyes. A tiny voice whispered 'this is what you should have been doing with Pipon' but he quashed the thought.

He had to stop living in the past and let his childhood love remain just that, this was real, this beautiful man was real and in his arms right here, right now and he had Pipon's blessing. It was time for him to move on, sighing deeply he held Sam a little bit tighter and eventually fell asleep.

Neither of them were aware of the woman opening the door a little later and looking in on them with a smile but worry marred her features. She wanted her son to be happy but feared that he would have to leave to secure his happiness.

She could sense that there were exciting things on the horizon for him and neither she nor his father could stand in his way, if he wanted to leave they would wave him off with a smile and shed their tears later.

Quietly closing the door she went downstairs to make herself a hot chocolate, it was her guilty pleasure on night's like this when sleep seemed to evade her then grabbing a thick blanket from the back of the sofa she wrapped herself and went to sit outside on the porch taking her chocolate with her.

She sat gazing out at the street and remembered the times she had sat in this very same spot and watched Maskwa teasing Pipon trying to get his attention but making him cry instead. She remembered as the boys got older and she had never told anyone of how she had been visited by the beautiful white wolf on mornings such as this one.

How it had come to their gate and looked at her with sadness in its eyes before darting away. She had seen that very same sadness in Pipon's eyes at the tribal meetings then after Pipon disappeared she had never seen the wolf again.

How she wished she had intervened and helped them both to reveal their true feelings and she wouldn't have been afraid for Maskwa because when wolves loved, they loved for life and Pipon would have died to save her son, she had no doubts about that.

Unfortunately Maskwa would still have left because Pipon could not stay in the village, he needed to be away from humans, by rights he should have been with his own kind and now she somehow felt that he was.

Sipping her chocolate she sensed a presence and looked around her to see her husband standing at the door.

"tansê nâpêw, kikî-manâ-koskonitin, I'm sorry I was careful not to wake you up" she said.

"kiyâm nîwa, it's ok wife, I wasn't really asleep ... I waited for a while so you could be alone but I missed you, kikî-patahotin" her husband replied

"I was just thinking ... our boy is a man now and soon he will be on his way" she whispered

"âha, yes ... he will be happy nîwa, that's the important thing" he replied

"âha, I know nâpêw and I will be happy for him"

"we will both be happy for him, now are you ready to go back to bed?" he asked his wife.

"âha, yes"

"kiyâm, let's go then" her husband said helping his wife to her feet.

"kîskîskwêhkâniskwêw ... silly woman, sitting out here all alone and feeling sad" he said.

"I wasn't sad, I was drinking my hot chocolate" she smiled.

"kisâkihitin nîwa, I love you my wife"

"kisâkihitin nâpêw, I love you my husband"

"whatever fate brings us we will face it together" he said before leading his wife back to their room.
