Chapter 5 ~ apologies ~

Start from the beginning

A few hours later he arrived at the cabin and after lighting a few lamps he made sure his horse's needs had been met before bedding him down for the night then he went inside. The place was dusty so he spent a while cleaning then he grabbed the blankets off the bed and took them outside to beat them.

He found clean sheets in a cupboard and made up the bed before stripping down and taking a quick dip in the creek that ran by the cabin, it was fucking cold but if Pipon could do it, so could he.

It was beautiful up here in the moonlight but it was too cold to fully appreciate the ambience so he rushed back inside and toweled his cold skin vigorously to warm himself up then he dressed quickly and lay on top of the bed fully clothed.

He thought of Pipon being here all alone night after night and it made him feel even worse, he just hoped that he was happy now in the sky world. He listened to the silence all around him and every so often he heard his horse give a soft whinny and in the distance he could hear the faint howl of wolves.

His eyes slowly closed and sleep almost caught up with him when he heard the door creaking open and he looked across to see Pipon walk inside then slip off his snow covered boots in the doorway.

"hey Maskwa" Pipon said.

"hey yourself, what have you been doing?"

"I was just out walking, enjoying the moonlight" Pipon replied and Maskwa noticed he was carrying a white lupine.

"isn't it rather late in the year for lupine flowers?" Maskwa said.

"not if you know where to look" Pipon smiled.

"Pipon listen,  I'm sorry for how I treated you when we were kids" Maskwa said standing up to walk across to Pipon.

"I know you are" Pon replied smiling.

"I'm sorry I drove you out of the village too, I was such an asshole to you"

"baby you didn't make life any easier for me that's for sure but trust me, I didn't move out of the village because of you, I just never felt as if I belonged"

"but the people who took you in after your parents died, they treated you well?" Maskwa asked him.

"of course they did, it's just ... it was hard keeping my secret in such a tight knit community"

"secret?"

"my spirit animal was the wolf Maskwa, what I had to keep to myself was that my parents had been ... I was ... a shifter"

"you mean you could turn into a wolf?" Maskwa said.

"mmm, it was never your fault baby, I just wanted to find my own way in life but unfortunately I didn't take care of myself well enough and I got sick" Pipon replied.

"I always loved you Pon, I just didn't know how to tell you" Maskwa said reaching out to take Pipon into his arms.

"I always loved you too Maskwa but I thought you would be disgusted, me being a boy and all" Pipon said looking down.

"never, you are my first love and I will always love you Pon" Maskwa said lifting Pon's face and lowering his head until their lips met in a tender kiss.

Pipon pulled back and looked into Maskwa's eyes,

"will you do something for me baby?" he asked Maskwa.

"anything" Maskwa replied.

"I want you to stop drinking and I want you to be a good son and stop torturing yourself and remember Raz and Pon?"

"yeah, the guy who looked like you"

"mmm, if you ever see them again, say hi to Timi for me" Pipon smiled.
