Song For This Particular Fanfic
Somethin' Stupid - Frank and Nancy Sinatra on The World We Knew (1967)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You were Sal Fisher's older sister. You weren't too popular, and you weren't bullied or picked on.
Despite being Sal's sister, you two look nothing alike.
This stirred rumours.
"She's adopted!"
"She's his stepsister!"
"They're faking it for attention!"
Nope.
You came from the same womb, and lost the same mother.
You also had the same friend group.
You, Ashley, Todd, Maple, Chug, Neil, your brother Sal, and of course, Larry. The stoner metalhead you've liked for months.
You felt weird for having your eyes set on the boy. He was younger than you by a single year. It wasn't even that large of an age difference compared to some of the couples at your high school, yet you always felt..disgusted..at the thought.
Right now, you and your group were sitting together at lunch. You stole occasional glances from Larry, locking eyes every once in a while which made your stomach churn. Ashley glanced at you, a knowing grin slowly growing on her face.
"Y/N, can I talk to ya for a sec?" The brunette-haired girl chirped. You raised an eyebrow at her, but still, you walked out with Ash into the corridor.
Y/N'S POV
I wondered what Ash had to say to me as we stepped out into the hallway and in front of a locker. Larry's locker.
"Ash.. what are we doing here...?" I ask cautiously. Ashley rolls her eyes playfully and chuckles.
"I see how you and Larry look at each other." She plainly states, catching me off guard.
"What's up with that?" She continues. My face heats up, sweat beats dotting my forehead.
"Nothing." I say quickly.
"We're just best friends." I blurt out. Ashley nods her head.
"Mhmm." She hums, rolling her eyes once more. God, can she not right now?
"I'm telling the truth! Me and Larry are JUST FRIENDS!"
"Did I say you guys weren't?" She asked, cocking her head slightly to the left and smiling. My eyes widened and my eyebrows un-furrowed. She got me there.
My face burned brighter, and I spluttered a little before speaking clearly.
"Well whatever! I like Larry! So what?!" I exclaimed loudly. Very loudly.
VERY.
FUCKING.
LOUDLY.
Loud enough that Larry could hear it as Travis fucking Phelps opened the door to exit the cafeteria.
Thanks, Travis. I'm going to beat you into a pulp next time I see you. It's on site.
Larry just sat there, staring at me, with eyes wider than saucepans. I couldn't see much from behind Sal's mask, but from the sibling telepathy, I could tell he was just as shocked as Larry, despite knowing about my crush. I looked back at Ash who looked worried.
"I..bye! Goodbye Ashley! See you tomorrow!" I yelled in mock-cheerfulness before sprinting off to my home, full speed.
- TIMESKIP -
I curled up into a little ball underneath my covers. God, I am SO STUPID! Fat, hot, angry tears pricked my eyeballs, threatening to slip down my cheeks. I felt pathetic.
My throat began to sting before I choked out a sob. Then another, then another. There's got to be no way today ACTUALLY happened. No. I'm only dreaming, Larry doesn't know I love him to death, Travis never opened that door, Ashley never called me out with her, I never went to school today. This never happen-
"Y/N, it's Sal. Larry's in the front room. He wants to talk to you." I heard my brother say through the crack of the door. I froze up. What the fuck does he want now? He's probably come to tell me how much he doesn't like me back, how he only sees me as a "bro", how much he wants to stay friends.
I hobble out of bed and down the stairs. I didn't care how much of a mess I looked. I swung open my front room door, earning a yelp of surprise from the boy sitting on my couch. Larry Johnson. Larry looked me up and down, mumbling a 'yeesh' and raising an eyebrow.
"Are.. are you alright, Y/N..? Erm, you seem a bit.. down.." He spoke softly, trying to be a source of comfort, but instead being more harm than help. It dawned on me finally how terrible I looked. In front of my crush too. Fucking Christ.
"Just say what you want to say and leave me alone." I grumbled. He visibly recoiled. But I don't care how much I hurt his "pReCiOuS" feelings, because I know DAMN well he's about to hurt mine by hitting me with a 'I don't feel the same way'.
But what comes out of his mouth sends a jolt of electricity through my body, which I had previously thought was cold, brutal, and full of hatred.
"Y/N, I heard what you said today and lunch, and uh... do you maybe wanna... go out with me sometime? Y'know to a Sanity's Fall concert, orr..a restaurant.. or something..?" Larry asked slowly, as if trying to find the right words. My angry, hateful facade immediately faded away as I just simply stared at him, just like how he stared at me earlier today.
"Oh, dude, I'd- um, love to!" I replied back, dumbfounded. A goofy, lovestruck grin spread across his face at once and he pulled me down on the couch with him, peppering my face with little kisses that made me chuckle. He then suddenly pulled back, looking embarrassed.
"My bad. Too forward." Larry muttered, making me smile. I smooched his cheek and nuzzled into the crook of his neck.
"It's okay, love." I say affectionately, looking up at him. He smiles and blushes deeply.
"I love you." Larry said, his voice barely above a whisper.
"...I can't believe I'm saying this to my best friend's sister..." Larry thinks out loud, making me cackle.
"I love you too." I said, caressing his soft cheeks. He pressed his forehead against mine and smiled like a newly adopted puppy.
I am so glad today happened.
