Unity at Dawn (Maze Runner and TFP Crossover)

Aftermath

Thomas and Chuck are sitting by the hammocks as the sun starts to fall beneath the walls and as they stare at the closed doors.

"Do you think he'll make it?" Thomas asked Chuck.

"Who? Ben? No no one ever survives a night in the Maze." Chuck claimed sadly.

Suddenly Wheeljack walked over to the two kids and looked down at them.

"Don't beat yourself up over something you couldn't control." Wheeljack said attempting to make Chuck feel better.

"I know, trust me, I'm fine. I mean, I was gonna go through this feeling eventually. After-all, some of the older guys went through this multiple times. So it was gonna be my turn eventually." Chuck claimed, then Thomas got a shocked look on his face and he put a hand on Chuck's shoulder.

"Chuck, listen, I don't think you really understand what he's trying to tell you here." Thomas claimed then he pointed over to the forest.

"You see how many leaves come off of those trees over there." Thomas asked and Chuck nodded.

"Do you think you have the power to keep those leaves from falling off the trees?" Thomas asked, raising an eyebrow and Chuck shook his head.

"Exactly, Chuck you just gotta understand. You can't stop the wind and you can't stop the cycle of life, we all die and sometimes. It happens to the people we care about most and in ways they don't want it to happen." Thomas claimed and Chuck nodded and walked off.

"That was a good one kid, you kinda remind me of Optimus in the stories I heard about him before he was a prime." Wheeljack said crossing his arms and Thomas was confused at the unknown names to him.

"Who are they?" Thomas asked and Bumblebee walked over.

"Not they, just him Optimus is our leader and before he was our leader he was a hard worker like the rest of us. He was simply just Orion Pax and sometimes when we think about that and we ask him, how he did it. He just tells us: Greatness comes from small beginnings." Bumblebee said, explaining the overall outline of Optimus.

"Sounds like a nice guy." Thomas said.

"Maybe you could get to meet him along with everyone else." Bumblebee said smiling, then Wheeljack turned his head to him with a frown and shook his head, believing that after the Maze they should split up to survive.

NEXT DAY

THOMAS CAN YOU HEAR ME

EVERYTHING IS GOING TO CHANGE

Thomas shot up from his hammock, breathing heavily having another unknown dream of an unknown memory. He could hear some footsteps and he turned his head to see Alby, Minho and Gally standing near the Maze doors as they were opening.

Alby shook Gally's hand as he and Minho ran into the Maze.

THAT AFTERNOON

Thomas and Chuck were sitting around, while Newt and another boy named Zart were trying to get a tree stump out of the ground.

"But why would Alby go into the Maze? He's not a runner." Thomas asked.

"Things are different now, he went to retrace Ben's footsteps before sundown." Newt claimed while bashing the stump.

"So he's going to go back to where Ben was just stung?" Thomas asked.

"Look, Alby knows what he's doing alright. He knows better than any of us." Newt claimed, trying to convince Thomas.

"What does that mean?" Thomas asked, still confused, Newt rubbed his head with slight annoyance before speaking.

"Well, it's like you've heard ya. Every month that box comes up with a new greenie, but someone had to be first right? Someone would have to spend a month in the glade alone and that was Alby and when those boy's started coming up one after the other he learned the most Important thing. We have each other cause we're all in this together." Newt claimed.

Hearing this made Thomas more understanding, so he got up, picked up a machete and began hitting the stump as well.

"There you go, that's how you do it." Newt said with a smile.

Despite their best efforts the stump wouldn't come loose.

"Shit, it's not going." Thomas claimed and held his arm because of how tired it was, Bumblebee noticed this and walked over, pulled the stump out of the ground with no effort whatsoever then smirked and set it down.

He walked back over to Wheeljack and he smiled.

2 HOURS LATER

Rain had started to fall and the day was progressing and Alby and Minho still had not returned when they should of, everyone was near the hammocks to stay out of the rain, they were all worried.

"They should be back by now, what if they don't make it?" Thomas asked, looking at Newt.

"They'll make it." Newt said with confidence.

"What if they don't?" Wheeljack asked in a serious tone.

Newt looked up at them.

"They will." Newt said.

About 30 minutes later the rain stopped and all of the Gladers were standing at the doors along with the Autobots who were a little further back, also with worried expressions.

"Come on guys, can't we send someone after them?" Thomas asked.

"We can't, it's against the rules. They either make it back, or they don't." Gally claimed.

Thomas looked shocked at this, thinking it was a harsh rule. Then Wheeljack and Bumblebee walked over and Gally quickly got up .

"What the hell do you think you're doing?" Gally said harshly.

"We'll go after them." Wheeljack said, not liking the little eyebrow punk's tone.

"No! We don't know what will happen if you go out there. If anything they could die if you go out there!" Gally yelled up to them.

Before Wheeljack could say something back the wind from the Maze blew in the boy's faces and the doors slowly started to close and Minho rounded the corner with Alby on his back.

"There!" Thomas pointed at the two and everyone was relieved at first, but then saw Alby fall off Minho's back and became worried again.

"Wait, no. Something's wrong." Newt said.

Then Minho resorted to dragging Alby, which proved to be difficult because of Alby's weight.

"Come on Minho! You can do it!" Chuck yelled and all of the Gladers started to yell for Minho to hurry as the doors were getting closer and closer to closing and Minho started dragging Alby by the foot as the doors got even closer.

"They're not going to make it." Newt realized and it seemed like everything seemed to slow down for Thomas as he was left with a choice and then just before the doors closed he ran between them squeezing through.

Just before Thomas was crushed the doors stopped moving for a second as Wheeljack tried to hold them open, but it proved to be futile as the doors shut behind Thomas and he turned around to see Minho panting.

"Good job! you just killed yourself." Minho claimed.
