On my first day at school, I was required to walk through a gate constructed of colorful papers and balloons. My parents assured me that I have the power to do anything I desire. I didn't trust either them or myself. I was frightened of the other kids, teachers, and the entire school.
You told me that not trying it at all could be more scary.
I couldn't muster the courage to follow my own path because I was afraid of seeing you less after taking this step. You would disappear whenever others were around me.
You offered me comfort and stroked my head, then proceeded to enter the colorful gate where other people were gathered. At first, your hands were behind your back. But then you made gestures to instruct me on how to breathe and take my steps to you.
You waited for me until I arrived. I walked across the imaginary bridge into a new chapter of my life. Everyone applauded, but my attention was focused solely on you.
You let me know from a distance that I managed to accomplish it.
Yes, indeed, I did, but only with you.
