On the day of the visit, Dr. Femi offered to pick up Pendo and Mara. As they embarked on the car ride to his place, the atmosphere inside the vehicle was palpably tense. Pendo's mind raced with uncertainty, her heart fluttering with a mixture of anticipation and apprehension. Beside her, Mara bounced with excitement, oblivious to the tension that gripped her mother and Dr. Femi. Despite her own nerves, Pendo couldn't help but smile at Mara's infectious enthusiasm, finding solace in her daughter's innocent joy.

Dr. Femi glanced at Pendo from the corner of his eye, noting the furrow of her brow and the way she nervously fidgeted with her hands. He could sense her apprehension, and though he wanted to ease her fears, his own anxiety gnawed at him. He desperately hoped that today would mark the beginning of something beautiful—a chance for Pendo to see him not just as a friend but as a potential partner.

As they drove through the bustling streets of Nairobi, the silence between them weighed heavily, each lost in their own thoughts. Despite the nerves that threatened to overwhelm them, there was an undercurrent of anticipation, a shared hope for what the day might bring. Mara, on the other hand, chattered excitedly from the backseat, her voice filling the car with youthful energy. She peppered Dr. Femi with questions about their destination, her enthusiasm infectious as she eagerly anticipated the adventures that awaited them. Despite the tension that lingered in the air, Mara's innocence and excitement served as a beacon of light, guiding them through the uncertainty of the day ahead.

Dr. Femi's suburban home exuded an air of timeless elegance and sophistication, nestled within a picturesque neighborhood lined with lush greenery and manicured lawns. As Pendo and Mara stepped out of the car, they were greeted by the sight of a charming two-story house adorned with climbing vines and blooming flowers, its warm exterior inviting them inside.

The front porch boasted a cozy seating area, complete with cushioned wicker chairs and vibrant throw pillows, perfect for enjoying a leisurely afternoon tea or watching the sunset. A quaint wooden swing hung from the sturdy beams overhead, swaying gently in the breeze, beckoning guests to relax and unwind in its embrace.

Stepping through the front door, Pendo and Mara were met with a sight that took their breath away. The interior was bathed in soft natural light streaming in through large bay windows, casting a warm glow over the tastefully appointed furnishings and elegant decor.

The living room was a study in refined comfort, with plush sofas and armchairs arranged around a sleek coffee table adorned with fresh flowers. A stone fireplace served as the focal point of the room, its crackling flames adding a touch of coziness to the space. The kitchen was a chef's dream, with gleaming granite countertops, state-of-the-art appliances, and ample storage space for all of Dr. Femi's culinary creations. A spacious island took center stage, providing the perfect spot for casual meals and lively conversations with loved ones.

As Pendo and Mara explored further, they discovered a charming playroom filled with toys, books, and games—a veritable paradise for young imaginations to run wild. Nearby, a sunlit dining area overlooked the backyard garden, where a wooden picnic table awaited al fresco gatherings and family meals under the stars.

Outside, the backyard was a verdant oasis of tranquility, with a sprawling lawn bordered by vibrant flower beds and towering trees. A wooden swing set and slide stood ready for Mara's enjoyment, while a hammock swayed gently in the breeze, inviting guests to unwind and soak in the serene surroundings. With its timeless charm, inviting ambiance, and thoughtful touches designed with families in mind, Dr. Femi's suburban home was a true sanctuary.

As lunchtime approached, the tantalizing aroma of home-cooked delicacies filled the air, drawing Pendo, Mara, and Dr. Femi to the dining table. They were greeted by the house manager, a warm and welcoming presence who had prepared a feast fit for royalty.

Plates brimming with mouthwatering dishes were laid out before them, each one a testament to the house manager's culinary expertise. There were platters of fragrant rice pilau, tender grilled chicken skewers marinated in aromatic spices, and vibrant salads bursting with fresh, seasonal vegetables. Glasses of chilled fruit juice sparkled in the sunlight, adding a refreshing touch to the meal.

As they savored each delectable bite, conversation flowed effortlessly between them, weaving a tapestry of shared memories, hopes, and dreams. The house manager regaled them with tales of his travels and culinary adventures, while Pendo shared anecdotes from her own life, her laughter mingling with the sound of clinking cutlery and contented sighs. Before they knew it, the afternoon sun began to dip below the horizon, casting a dark shadow indicating rain. With reluctant smiles, they realized that they had lost track of time.

As they were caught up in the warmth of their conversation and the lingering flavors of their sumptuous meal, the sky outside began to darken, ominous clouds rolling in with the promise of an impending downpour. Suddenly, the tranquil afternoon was shattered by the sound

of rain pelting against the windows, the deluge of water transforming the serene landscape into a blur of motion and sound.

Dr. Femi's keen gaze flickered towards the window, a hint of concern furrowing his brow as he noted the intensity of the rain and Mara nodding off. Sensing his plan in motion, he turned to Pendo and Mara with a reassuring smile. "Looks like we'll be staying a bit longer than anticipated. How about we find a cozy room for Mara to rest as we wait out the rain?"

With a nod of agreement, Dr. Femi led them to a nearby guest bedroom which was oddly suited for a young child, its inviting ambiance bathed in soft lamplight and adorned with plush furnishings. "Mara, how about we make this room your own little sanctuary until the rain passes?" he suggested, his voice gentle and reassuring. Mara's eyes sparkled with excitement at the prospect of having her own space, her youthful curiosity piqued by the idea of exploring a new environment. "Can I bring my toys in here, Uncle Femi?" she asked eagerly, her voice filled with anticipation.

"Of course, Mara. Make yourself at home," Dr. Femi replied with a warm smile, ushering her into the room and helping her gather her favorite toys. As Mara settled into her newfound haven, Dr. Femi turned to Pendo with a reassuring glance. "I'll keep an eye on her while you and I wait out the rain. Hopefully, it'll pass soon." With a grateful smile, Pendo followed Dr. Femi back to the living room, where they settled into comfortable chairs, the rhythmic patter of rain against the windows providing a soothing backdrop to their conversation.
