CHAPTER 40: WORTH IT

Quinn's POV

The police are surprised that the kidnapper didn't ask for many nor any luxurious things. All they want was my presence. While Savi and I are no longer shocked. Ariadne is up for something, for sure. That's what we were scared of.

Anong balak ng baliw na 'yon? How many of them are waiting for us? Are we really prepared for this? Can we get back my daughter? Can I get back to them once we saved Atarah? Those were just the few questions lurking in my mind. Marami pa akong tanong na alam kong walang makakasagot kung hindi namin susubukan.

"What's on your mind?" Nabalik ako sa ulirat nang magtanong si Savi. She's double checking the bulletproof I'm wearing.

I looked at her straight in the eyes and said with full honesty, "I'm scared."

Something that I love when I'm with Savi, I can be myself. Hindi ako takot ipakita o sabihin kung anong totoong nararamdaman ko. Because whatever happens, she won't use it against me.

"Are you sure you want to do this?" She asked in worried tone. Her palms are resting on my face, her warmth giving me assurance.

"Hm," tipid akong tumango at ngumiti. I'm scared but that doesn't mean that I won't do it. Buhay na ng anak namin ang nakataya rito. "Takot lang ako pero iuuwi ko si Atarah sa'yo." Paniniguro ko.

"Hindi lang si Atarah ang uuwi." Paglilinaw naman niya. Her authoritative tone sent me a breath of relief.

"Uuwi kaming dalawa," I paused. Kinabig ko siya sa bewang saka sinabing, "Uuwi kaming dalawa sa'yo." And that is a promise.

"Safe and sound?" She asked. Her eyes are looking for answer in mine. I gave what she's looking for. I gave her an assuring stare and smile, hoping that it would ease all her worries away.

"And before we leave," huminga ako ng malalim. Her lovely eyes are now clueless. "Let me make a promise..." I said, my voice a bit shaking.

"W-What is it?" Nauutal pang tanong niya. It seems like we're both nervous at the moment. Siya, kabado dahil hindi alam ang nasa isip ako, habang ako, kabado dahil alam ko na kung saan 'to patungo.

"Kapag natapos lahat ng 'to..." I breathed deeply. Her eyes is filled with anticipation. "Pakakasalan na kita." I finally said. "I will marry you, Savi. Just wait for me, alright?"

Her eyes immediately swelled with tears. Mabilis nahawa ang mga mata ko. I used my thumb to wipe her tears but her tears are like river. Patuloy na umaagos at ayaw tumigil.

"I said that to assure you, not to make you cry, you know?" Natatawang saad ko habang umiiyak.

"Binibigla mo ako, e!" Natatawang singhal din niya sabay tapik pa sa balikat ko. Lalo akong natawa habang umiiyak parin.

"Oh tahan na," pag-alo ko sa kanya. "Tahan na, baby. I can't leave you here when you're crying." Masuyong saad ko habang pinupunasan ang mga luha niya.

"It's your fault," she said in a childish tone followed by hiccups. She wiped my tears using her handkerchief. Napangiti ako. Sandaling nawala sa isip ko ang magulong sitwasyon. But now that I remember it, kailangan na naming kumilos. "Aalis na kayo?" Tanong niya kapagkuwan.

"Yeah," I answered then circled my eyes around the place.

Nasa police station parin kami. Naghahanda na para puntahan ang address na binigay ni Ariadne. May tracker at ear piece na nakasuot sa'kin. The police instructed me earlier that whatever happens, I need to follow their order.
