Vikky walked in with the food tray into his mothers room. She was sleeping in the bed, but her eyes were open. The room was dark. Too dark for Vikky's liking. He placed the food tray on the bed side table and opened the blinds. Sunlight illuminated the room. Khushi blocked the rays with her hand. The light pierced her soul. It made her face the reality that she was not ready to face. She did not want to be around anyone. She did not want anyone to come and talk to her. She wanted to be left alone. She wanted to lick her wounds in peace, but Vikky and Vivek refused to leave her alone. She was tired of pretending to sleep. She was tired of waiting for them to leave her alone. She wanted to yell at them that she did not want their pity but she could not muster the energy.

She turned away hoping Vikky would take the hint and go away but the boy pulled her up and set pillows so that she could sit comfortably.

"Aapko pata hai aaj kya hua, mumma?" He spoke animatedly, setting up the food tray before her. It had become his daily routine. She was discharged from the hospital three weeks ago and everyday he came to her room early in the morning, setting up her food tray and helping her with the breakfast. he spoke to her even when she remained silent. She did not want his pity. She was not that desperate. She did not understand why he was trying so hard. He had every reason to hate her. Every reason to turn away, but instead he was reaching out.

"Pata hai, dad ne aapke bacho ko data." He complained as he poured juice for her. Her eyes flickered. Her heart picked up a beat. She wanted to ask why but remained silent.
