Chapter 26 :- Another Night

Start from the beginning

Tears welled up in my own eyes as I struggled to find the right words. "Alice, I told you that you are the most important person in my life." I paused, letting the weight of my words sink in. Then, with a gentle touch, I wiped away her tears, my thumb tracing the curve of her cheek and cupped her face, making her look at me. Her eyes were red from crying, and her face was streaked with tears. She looked so vulnerable in that moment.

I spoke softly "Alice, our long-distance relationship will be tough, but think about it for a second and just imagine the day when we will finally be together. Close your eyes and picture it - the warmth of being together, think of your bright smile, holding hands, feeling each other's heartbeats and then We will say 'Yes, we made it.' Don't you think it will be worth fighting for?"

I could see the doubt in her eyes, but she nodded slowly as I continued to stroke her cheek. A small smile tugged at her lips as she leaned into me, seeking comfort.

I said with bright smile "It will make me kind of happy to know that you will be away from me, so that you will constantly be thinking about me. It will make me really happy to know that you will be constantly thinking about me."

Her smile grew wider as she leaned in closer, seeking solace in my embrace. I couldn't help but feel a surge of love for her in that moment, knowing that she was willing to fight for us despite the distance.

"Alice, you said that I will be away from you," I said softly. "But you are completely wrong about it. I will always be in your heart. And yes, it won't be easy to stay away from me. But I promise you, it will be worth it."

God, I am such a liar. I can't believe myself for lying to her so many times. The weight of my deceit hangs heavy on my conscience, and I fear the consequences of my actions. But for now, I have to focus on what lies in front of me. I will deal with the aftermath later.

As she slowly leaned off of me, her eyes found my lips, and she pressed them against mine for one last kiss. The bittersweet taste lingered on my mouth as she leaned back into my embrace. I gently began patting her head, noticing that her body was growing warmer. Concerned, I placed my hand on her forehead, confirming my suspicion - she had a fever again.

Without hesitation, I scooped her fragile form into my arms and rushed out of my room. The hallway seemed endless as I hurried towards her room, my heart pounding with worry. Finally, I reached her door and swiftly opened it, carefully placing her in bed and tucking her under a warm blanket.

Leaving her side reluctantly, I stepped outside her room and made my way to Elizabeth's room. Panic and urgency filled my voice as I informed her about Alice's fever. Elizabeth quickly grabbed her stethoscope and motioned for me to follow. Together, we walked back to Alice's room, the tension thick in the air.

Elizabeth instructed me to wait outside while she entered the room. I leaned against the wall, my mind racing with thoughts of Alice's well-being. Anxiety gnawed at my insides as I anxiously paced back and forth, my footsteps echoing in the quiet hallway. Each passing minute felt like an eternity, and I couldn't help but worry about what the outcome would be.

Finally, the door creaked open, and Elizabeth emerged from the room. I held my breath, waiting for her verdict. With a mixture of relief and gratitude, she informed me that Alice was going to be alright; she simply needed some rest. A heavy sigh escaped my lips, and I felt a weight lift off my shoulders. The worry that had consumed me slowly dissipated, replaced by a glimmer of hope. Just as I began to relax, Elizabeth beckoned me to follow her into her room.

I sighed and thought it must be about the plan. I nodded as Elizabeth led me into her room. The weight of the world seemed to lift off my shoulders as I followed her inside. She gestured for me to sit on the couch, and I obliged, watching as she disappeared into the room and emerged wearing a soft nightgown.
