Broken, but Not Defeated

Chapter 9 (Wesley)

I sigh as the door shuts behind the Captain. Putting my head in my hands I groan. Could this day get any worse? Things with my father had not gone as planned. It turns out some man named Duke Worthington, Lord Cassian, and Cole's father were all coming into town. Besides that juicy information, my father had been in a foul mood. If it hadn't been for Micheal, I might have a bruise to prove it. That man had courage, being one of my mother's old guards she had brought with her. He loved us with all of his heart. He is the reason I had been better than most kids my age at swordplay, he had helped me convince my father to let me pick out my sister's guards, even though he did most of the picking.

I stand up and walk over to my window that overlooks the garden. I almost run out the door at what I see. Juliana and Cole are standing way too close. And not more than twenty feet away and a few turns is Lady Anya and some weird guy walking. "I am going to kill him."

"Of course you are. That is totally not okay," A silky, smooth voice says.

"Lady Celie, what might I do for you?" I say, giving her a small bow.

"Oh, nothing. You looked stressed so I thought I might help," she says, giving me a charming smile. Well, I suppose it's supposed to be charming, but to me it looks more like a pig trying to smile.

Beorn, my black german shepherd growls. Well, we have something in common, we both hate Celie.

"I hope I'm not bothering you," she says, giving Beorn a timid smile.

"Not at all," I say, trying to be polite. "It's just that... Well, never mind you wouldn't be interested in that. How about a walk?" I offer her my arm.

"I would love to!" she squeals.

I send Beorn a grimace. Then look out the window. Oh no! That does not look good.

"Lady Celie, I am going to cancel the walk, um, duty calls," I wrench my arm from her grip and run out the door. Beorn comes barreling after me.

"Lord Wesley, wait," Celie whines.
