Broken, but Not Defeated

Chapter 3 (Wesley)

My sword crashes against the Captain's sword. A few seconds later I use a move that the Commander had taught me while he was here for a few weeks. I dislodge the captain's sword from his hand and I swipe his feet out from underneath him.

"Good fight captain," I comment a bit out of breath. A few of the court ladies cheer and clap. Honestly, I don't think I can get a break from them unless I lock myself in my room. But even then they seem to find a way to get past my guards. I sheath my sword and offer the captain my hand.

"I swear if you keep it up you will be better than my father, Lord Wesley."

The only time I have Lord put in front of my name by Captain Cole West is when we were with other people in the court. I pushed some of my brown locks out of my face.

"Well, Cole, as they say, 'Commander West is the best of the best at swordplay,' am I right or am I wrong?"

"Ha, ha you're right. You are right," he laughs.

Some of the court ladies giggle, and when I look over they start giggling even more. The only one who is more than just a giggling lady is Cole's sister Lady Anya. She is by far the most beautiful of them all with her dark blond hair and hazel eyes. I am happy that she and Juliana are good friends. Because I think I will talk to Cole about letting me marry her.

"Ignore them, Wesley," Cole whispers. He looks over, they just giggle even more. I mean he was pretty good-looking so I wouldn't be surprised if they liked him too; dark red hair, blue eyes. All of a sudden I hear someone calling my name.

"Lord Wesley, Lord Wesley, where are you?" Aaron, one of my sister's guards, rushes over. "What is it man, spit it out. What is wrong?" I question him. trying to keep a level voice, but I was quickly losing patience.

"It's your sister, sir. I think she started mourning a little too much over your mother, sir. Sir Jaden is bringing her in right now."

Both Cole and I rush to the gate. Jaden is jogging in when I get there. Juliana, please be okay. Her whole body is shaking. Oh, please let her be okay.

"Jaden, carry her to her room, Haille grab the doctor," I hear Lady Anya command. "Savanna get some hot water." The servants rush around to do as she says.

I follow Jaden as Lady Anya leads him to Juliana's room. Cole follows me, I think he might have a small crush on Juliana. Not that he would admit it to me. Besides, my sister is engaged to some old man.

"What is going on out here?" My father's voice booms across the hall. "Sir Jaden let go of my daughter at once."

Jaden looks at me. I shake my head and tell him with my eyes to continue to my sister's room. Most of the guards listen to my father only because it's their duty, but I know they all respect me more and would follow me even into the darkest of woods.

"It's all right Father, Juliana is having a bit of a panic attack, nothing to worry about," I say with a little bit of a bite in my voice trying to keep my face blank of any emotions. "It should pass in no time."

"Good, then you have no reason to be with her at the moment, I am sure Lady Anya is capable of taking care of her," My father says with a sneer.

I will snap one day but the time is not now. I must first get Juliana out of here. "Of course Father you are right. She does not need me," I say, bowing my head as a show of submission. But I was really trying to hide the fire burning in my eyes. I follow my father into his office.
