Heartbreak Anniversary

Part 14

Labor Day weekend

"Let the girls weekend begin!" Cassidy screamed in the back seat of my car as we drove to the winery 

We were heading to Napa Valley for the day and everyone was more than excited. Our flight came in last night and thankfully my parents allowed us to stay for the weekend. I had missed my car so much since New York wasn't a driving city 

"Lexi and Imani y'all never told me Rj was that cute!" Alexandria shouted once again causing us to cringe 

When we came home last night for Rj was at the house. I wasn't expecting to see him since he was supposed to be at boarding school. Imani had told me that night that Rj was back because of drug allegations. One of his friends found him passed out from an overdose and mom flew out to Switzerland to bring him back home

I had no idea he was facing that and it started to make sense why Imani was always busy. She told me mom and Rj didn't wanted to keep it away from me since I'm in school but I was still upset that I wasn't informed. He had been dealing with addition and I never knew... 

"Alexandria, I will not allow you to be a cougar! Especially with my brother" Imani expressed causing everyone in the car to laugh 

Driving down the road I began to see the building and smiled as we were finally here. It was a long drive but the weather was so good today and it was perfect for a long drive. We came upon the gate and the guard opened it as valet came to park the car. We all got our belongings and I gave the kind man my keys 

Cassidy and Imani pulled out their phones taking videos of the location. The grapevine field was massive and surrounded the building. There were so many flowers as well and it felt good to be in the California heat. I pulled out my phone to check if I received any messages

There were none and I sighed wondering if Micheal was okay. We haven't talked as much in the past two days. I had gotten comfortable being on the phone all day with him but lately he told he's been busy at work and studying. I understood and gave him space... we aren't dating 

"He still hasn't texted you?" Alex questioned from behind causing me to jump 

"Lord, Alex don't scare me like that" I cried 

"He's busy and has no obligation to talk to me all the time" I mumbled making an excuse for his behavior

Alex didn't say anything but I could tell by her face she wanted to say something, "tell me what you're thinking" I asked 

We were walking inside the winery and Alex let out a deep sigh as it seemed like she didn't want to say what was on her mind. It was odd since she usually the one who always spoke her mind regardless of our feelings 

"Listen, I think Micheal is great and y'all get along so well. But for him to suddenly go quiet... It feels weird and I think there is somebody else in the picture" she confessed causing me to hold my breath 

I understand her concern but I don't want to jump to conclusions. He is at home with his family and studying for a big exam. I can't expect him to make time for me every single day... I don't know what's going on but I want to trust him

"Thank you for telling me that but Alex I doubt that is the case. He told he would be busy this week so I'll trust him" I answered with a smile 

Alex nodded her head and interlocked her hands with mine as we walked together. Cassidy and Imani found our tour guide and was talking their heads off once we caught up. You could tell these two were excited to be here which was ironic since they were the light weights of the group 

"Ladies, it is lovely to have you all here" our guide began 

He was a tall man and looked Spanish almost. I didn't want to assume but I was pretty sure he was latin, " my name is Thomas and I've been working here for 9 years teaching our guest the rich history of wine. I hope you ladies are ready to experience today" he smiled 

We all looked at each other and nodded our head in sync. Thomas smiled and lead us down the hall. There were a few people in the welcome area drinking wine or having a light conversation. Thomas told us that after the tour guest are allowed to relax and enjoy the scenery 

I was really happy that we picked this for our trip. We headed out to the field to look at the grapevines. It was so pretty outside I pulled out my phone to snap a picture. Thomas began giving us how they make wine but I was zoning out from the scenery 

Opening instagram I saw that Micheal had posted, part of me was annoyed that he was being active on social media but couldn't answer my messages. But I reminded myself to not act like a girlfriend right now, he can do what he wants 

I posted on my story a picture of the winery then a selfie. After a few seconds my phone blew up with likes on my story and I noticed Micheal was one of them. So he's liking my story but not answering my messages... 

Taking a deep breath I put my phone up and decided to enjoy this trip with my friends. A man was not going to cloud my mind once again. Alex and flirting with Thomas as she kept asking him questions about the winery and why he works here

I couldn't help but laugh as she never failed to find somebody to flirt with on these trips, Cassidy and Imani were also watching as I saw them take a picture 

"She strikes again" I commented causing both of them to laugh

Thomas lead us further down the winery and I was beginning to get hot. For some reason lately I've been sweating like crazy. It wasn't that hot outside but I was getting tired from walking, maybe I needed some food. My mother fixed us a whole spread for breakfast but I didn't have an appetite for anything. Cassidy kept saying I needed to eat because we were going to be out all day so I took an apple but that was it 

"Thomas, it's a bit hot. When can we head inside?" I questioned fanning myself with the pamphlet  

"We are almost done but we can head inside early and see the basement" he replied 

I gave him a curt smile and started heading back inside. Imani came by my side and checked my face, "are you okay?" she asked causing me to pause 

I was just hot and nothing serious, "I'm just hot and probably hungry" I joked

"Your face looks very red yet its glowing" she commented which confused me a bit 

Cassidy reached us as she had a basket full of grapes, "you know usually pregnant women during the first two weeks of conception have red/glowing faces" she suddenly commented 

I started laughing at both of them because that was extremely random. Cassidy studies biology and often brings up random facts at odd times. She was studying to be a OBGYN though so she knew a lot about pregnancy and labor 

"Can we just go inside" I laughed
