18.- And now what?

Start from the beginning

Everyone tried to get back to normal; we knew we had to move on. At least, that's what I wanted to believe. On my way to my dormitory, I felt more tired than usual.

"Midoriya," said Todoroki. I turned my face to see him; he looked tired, and his brow was slightly furrowed. "If you're feeling bad, you can talk to us. We're your friends." He took a few steps toward me and put his hand on my shoulder. "Just like you, she helped me overcome the hatred I had towards my left side. Sakura approached without the prejudice of being Endeavor's son, as many others have done."

I felt a lump in my throat as I heard her name. Todoroki-kun looked sad, as I surely did. I couldn't keep looking him in the eyes, so I averted my gaze.

"Every day I walked with Sakura to the hospital, and sometimes we met in my mother's room," Todoroki said. He gave a big smile that surprised me. "What I mean is, even though she was with us for a short time, without Sakura, it's not the same. I don't care if she's from Switzerland or another world; she is our friend, and we will bring her back."

My eyes filled with tears once again. I'm not the only one who misses her. Todoroki is right; she has become a part of our world. No matter what others say, we will bring her back until she has to return to her world.

I opened up to Todoroki at my side. We talked about Sakura for a while, and I even told him how I had gotten used to sleeping with her because it was the only way to calm her nightmares. We laughed about when she gave away her mud balls, and Todoroki said that although they tasted horrible, she ate them because she put effort into making them. We talked about the ninja stories she told her mother, which we now understood were true. We laughed about her fits of anger when technology didn't do what she wanted, how she wanted to kill Mineta for being a pervert, and we talked about those moments when she surprised us with her fighting skills.

I don't know how much time passed since we started talking. It wasn't until we were sitting on the floor with our backs against the wall, and Todoroki yawned for the third time, that I realized it was probably very late. Talking to Todoroki about Sakura made me feel much better.

"We'd better go to sleep" I said, getting up from the floor. "Todoroki-kun, thank you."

Todoroki glanced at me before responding succinctly, "It's nothing." He headed to his room, and I watched him go, feeling happy that whatever Sakura is doing right now, she has friends and knows that we care about her.

The next morning, feeling much better than I had in days, I got ready and went down to have breakfast with the others. The atmosphere was lively, with everyone pitching in to prepare breakfast. Once we sat down to eat, they turned on the television to the news channel.

"And today, we have with us Mr. Tanaka, an expert in genetics, and Mrs. Asahi in quantum physics to talk about their new research" announced the news anchor. Next to him, two scientists in their lab coats looked very excited.

"Good morning," greeted the scientist, visibly excited alongside her colleague. "The appearance of young Haruno Sakura has caused a stir in the scientific community. She has challenged and confirmed theories that have been debated for years. Hundreds of scientists around the world are now investigating the existence of worlds and their influence on ours. There are so many questions to answer that I can't wait to get back to research!"

"Yes, well, you see, maybe this is a new era for physics," commented the anchor, trying to summarize what little the scientist said, who began muttering to herself. "And you, Mr. Tanaka? What can you tell us about genetic research? I heard that scientists from various countries made requests to our government regarding Haruno Sakura."

"Of course, according to what we saw in battle and what we have been told by sources close to Miss Haruno Sakura, the power she wields is not a gift like what most of the population in this world possesses," gasped the news anchor in surprise. "From what I've heard, it's called chakra, a power native to her world with which they are born and develop, and as we saw, they can shape it in different forms. Indeed, my research group in Japan, along with those from other countries, is eager to have even a few minutes of Miss Haruno's time to conduct tests or take samples of her DNA and study the chakra. Can you imagine a new generation of people with gifts and abilities with that chakra?"
