Another 4 months had passed by now and as Crowley stared down at their angel, their eyes filled with tears. They were so scared they'd just never wake up and be reduced to sleeping forever. They held the angel's hand tight and they felt a weak squeeze in return. They froze, their eyes meeting Aziraphale's and relief like nothing else crashed into their body, putting their head against his chest and starting to cry. Aziraphale's hand weakly brushed through Crowley's hair.

"I'm here my dear. I'm here..." He murmured, his voice weak and hoarse. Crowley just hugged him, holding him close.

"You asshole. You fucking asshole. Why did it take you so long to wake up?" Crowley cried, tears streaming down their face.

"I couldn't control it dear, I would've woken up sooner if I had control over it." Aziraphale chuckled weakly, hugging Crowley back.

The two stayed silent, just holding the other close. Crowley felt so happy and relieved that their angel was finally awake and Aziraphale was just glad to be awake and by Crowley's side again. That was all the pair wanted.

"How... How long was I out for..?" Aziraphale murmured hesitantly, curious about how long he hadn't been able to properly be by Crowley's side. All he could tell was it had been quite some time or almost none as it looked like early autumn.

"Eight months..." Crowley sighed, squeezing Aziraphale closer who felt a bit of guilt wash over him. He couldn't control how long he was out for, he knew that but he couldn't stop himself from feeling bad for leaving Crowley alone for so long. He just hugged the serpent a bit tighter, trying to comfort them.

They fell back into a comfortable silence as they hugged. Neither spoke, neither moved. All that mattered was feeling the other in their arms, to know they were there and alive. They just enjoyed the feeling of being together, of being able to exist amongst the other without worry for time being. They knew the calm and safety wouldn't last forever so they'd savor it while it was here.

Aziraphale had to stay in the hospital for another few months but Crowley visited him every day, even miracling himself in often when they technically weren't supposed to be there just because they missed their angel.

They often brought him gifts or flowers to try and cheer him up - and left him one of their jackets there for Aziraphale, which he slept in. To the pair's luck, Michael didn't show her face again, opting to stay in the shadows or maybe she had left Earth period. That didn't stop Crowley from searching though, it didn't matter to them that Aziraphale had already woken up, it didn't matter that he was alright now, physically at least, mentally remains to be seen.

Michael still disfigured their angel, and they would not stand for it. She had been willing to disfigure Aziraphale simply because she didn't like him because he was different. Because he was human. But unlike Michael, Crowley would be sure to finish the job. There was no escaping for her.

But for now, Crowley was more focused on making sure Aziraphale recovered properly. When he was discharged and returned home, Crowley mainly took care of him, even with things he technically was safely able to do by himself. They didn't want to take any risks though. Not after waiting for so long. Not after the hell he'd been put through. No, Aziraphale would rest. Crowley wouldn't give him any other option.

They cleaned up, cooked, helped run the bookshop, though stuck close to Aziraphale while in there, slowly getting used to being in there again, they drove them both around and carried Aziraphale if they felt he had been on his feet for too long.

They knew they were being overbearing but they couldn't help it, they hated seeing Aziraphale hurt and just wanted to protect him from the world. Plus, Aziraphale took it like a champ, only complaining on occasion and was patient with Crowley's insistence. He knew why they were acting this way, he understood so it didn't bother him too much, but it still got annoying after a while.

"Crowley, dear, can we talk?" Aziraphale asked after 3 months of this. For as much patience as he had, especially for Crowley, it was starting to wear thin.

"What do you need, angel?" They asked, tilting their head in curiosity, stopping what they were doing and turned to face him.

Aziraphale took a deep breath, "Look, I know you mean and I do appreciate how much you've tried to help me but I'm fine now, I don't need you to hover over me, for both our sakes. Being overly distant isn't healthy of course, but neither is being attached at the hip. I'm not in enough pain to need constant help so I'm asking you to give me enough space to breathe on my own," He explained, his voice gentle despite his slight hesitance.

Crowley nodded, "Yeah that's- that's probably for the best, thanks for telling me and I'll give you more space now just... Don't get too mad if I forget every so often." They rubbed the back of their neck and chuckled.

"Of course dear, patience is a virtue after all," Aziraphale teased a bit and gently kissed Crowley's cheek, who promptly pulled him into their lap and held them close.

"You're not escaping the cuddles though, angel."
"Wouldn't dream of it dear."
