"Shove it Turrent." Leena pulled her hydra coat tighter. She'd grown accustomed to it during the time she and Alaina spent in Sikati. The outfit was comfortable, somehow keeping her warm in Cold Cycle and cool here in Birth Cycle's unpredictable heat swings. The best part was that Ira had given her several copies; she'd never have to choose an outfit again. Alaina seemed content with her dove dresses as well.

I'm still not sure why Ira seemed so thrilled when we accepted them.

Hatsuto, Sakima's Partner, pulled up on his horse. "Still no sighting of an army of any kind. Are you sure this is the right place?"

Leena shrugged. "This was Sakima's theory, not mine. I trust his judgment."

"As do I," Hatsuto said. "This is the most obvious place, but sometimes the most obvious is subject to counterintelligence. It would be wise to have chosen a less useful staging area, one that would also be less likely to be guarded."

Turrent pulled up on Midnight. "What is he over here talking about?"

"He's saying we chose wrong," Leena said.

"I've said no such thing," Hatsuto said. "I am only implying-"

Alaina dropped from the sky and Hatsuto's horse whinnied.

"Be more careful, girl," Hastuto snapped.

"I saw them," Alaina shouted.

"Saw what?" Leena asked.

She pointed north. "At least hundred ugar storming this way. Maybe more." She hugged herself. "It's just so many and we had trouble with one."

Turrent touched her on the shoulder. "That was a long time ago. We're ready now."

Sakima trotted up. "My zone is clear, nothing so far. I choose this site-"

Leena held up her hand. "Alaina spotted them."

Sakima dropped from Hunter and hefted his greataxe. "I would be better if we were at full strength."

Leena gritted her teeth. "If he were coming, he'd be here by now. We can do this."

The four of them nodded.

Sakima touched Hatsuto's leg. "Not you. You need to go."

Hatsuto grabbed Sakima's hand. "I'm not leaving you again and I am more than capable."

"Someone with authority has to get to the advance force and prevent the war with Hruh," Sakima said. "It has to be you."

Hatsuto leaned over kissed Sakima. "At least I get to say goodbye this time."

"I'll find you when this is over," Sakima said. "Now go."

Leena handed Hatsuto the letter from King Yua. "Take this with you and use this to delay the Yuans if you can; we'll meet you as soon as possible."

Hatsuto mounted his stallion, giving Sakima one last look before kicking his steed forward.

Leena nodded. "We don't hold anything back. We give them bastards all they can take and then some."

Sakima raised his greataxe. Alaina clasped her hands and nodded. Turrent pulled his short swords and smirked.

Leena pulled Dagger-Wade from his sheath. "Alright, Seriens. Let's get to work."

*********

"They just keep coming." Alaina ripped through one of them with a whip of wind.

The girl is right.
