Chapter 1: The Invitation

Lockwood and Co. had been invited to a prestigious party hosted by one of the most influential families in London. It was an honor to receive such an invitation, and the team was excited to attend. Lucy Carlyle, the newest member of the agency, was particularly thrilled. She had always dreamed of attending high society events, and this was her chance to experience it firsthand.

As they arrived at the grand mansion, Lucy couldn't help but feel a mix of excitement and nervousness. The grandeur of the place was overwhelming, with chandeliers hanging from the ceiling and marble floors shining under the soft glow of candlelight. The air was filled with the sound of laughter and the clinking of glasses.

Lucy looked over at Anthony Lockwood, her mentor and the leader of their agency. Lockwood was known for his charm and confidence, always the life of the party. He was dressed impeccably in a tailored suit, his dark hair perfectly styled. Lucy couldn't help but feel a sense of pride standing next to him.

As they mingled with the other guests, Lucy noticed a man from a rival agency eyeing them from across the room. His name was Victor, a competitive agent who always seemed to have a chip on his shoulder. Lucy had heard rumors about him, but she had never met him in person.

Victor approached Lucy, a smug smile on his face. "Ah, Lucy Carlyle, I've heard so much about you," he said, his voice dripping with condescension. "Tell me, how does it feel to work for Anthony Lockwood? A poor orphan who gets beaten up every other night."

Lucy's eyes widened in shock. She had never expected someone to speak so disrespectfully about Lockwood. She opened her mouth to respond, but before she could say anything, Lockwood gently pushed her aside and swiftly punched Victor in the face.

The room fell silent as Victor stumbled backward, clutching his bleeding nose. The guests gasped in shock, their disapproving glares fixed on Lockwood. Lucy rushed to Lockwood's side, concern etched on her face.

"Lockwood, are you alright?" she asked, her voice filled with worry.

Lockwood tried to brush off the incident, but his suit was in disarray, and his hair was slightly messed up. His hands were bruised, and the knuckles were bleeding from punching Victor. He looked at Lucy, a sheepish smile on his face.

"I'm fine, Lucy. Just a little scuffle," he replied, his voice laced with pain. "Let's not let this ruin our evening."

But it was too late. The host of the party, a stern-looking man with a monocle, approached them, his face red with anger. "Mr. Lockwood, I'm afraid your behavior is unacceptable. You and your team are no longer welcome here. Please leave immediately."

Lockwood's face fell, disappointment evident in his eyes. He glanced at Lucy, his expression apologetic. "I'm sorry, Lucy. I didn't mean for things to turn out this way."

Lucy shook her head, her voice filled with determination. "No, Lockwood. It's not your fault. We'll find another way to prove ourselves. We don't need their approval."

As they walked out of the mansion, Lockwood and Lucy exchanged a knowing look. They may have been kicked out of the party, but their bond as a team had only grown stronger. They were determined to show the world that they were more than just orphans and misfits. They were Lockwood and Co., and they were ready to face any challenge that came their way.

Little did they know, this incident would be the catalyst for a series of events that would test their skills, their friendship, and their very existence as ghost hunters. But that is a story for another time.
